B writes: I found a quick mention of Morrissey's return in the CRAP section of UK comedian Michael Legge's website. He also mentions Kirsty MacColl.
Excerpt: ...The good stuff in 2001 will be Lee Mack, Daniel Kitson, the return of Morrissey and Hartswood Films producing a sitcom by me and Bennett Arron. Oh, yeeeaah!--- Charmer also writes: I'm working in Bath (England) at the moment, and there are rumours flying about that Morrissey has been spotted in various pubs. I heard he was back in the country - do you know if it's true or not?

Today 09/01/01 as I walked around Allied Carpets (UK retailer) I heard "...I still don't belong to anyone..." ~ I instantly recognised this as "I Am Hated For Loving." It was sang by a male with a weak (not very good) voice. And although the volume was quite low I was certain the backing music WAS the boys. The fade out harmonies of Alain White were unmistakable. The next track was by REM so i believe it was a stab at Store Muzak respectability. I approached a male assistant and asked about the music , he pointed me in the direction of the manager and added that the music was "sad." I thought his carpets were sad, but held back as I didn't want to offend him after all I was about to ask his manager for the tape! His manager made me wait whilst he finished his phone call and then declined my request as it was the property of Allied carpets. I had hope to post it on Napster for those interested in how Morrissey's song should not be sung (although I am probably guilty of this!). I don't have any other information on this but if someone has, or if anyone has had a similar tale, add a comment.

I was watching the recent movie "East is East" last night and the whole movie takes place in Salford, Manchester in 1971. It was filmed in the area by the Salford Lad's Club. You can tell by all the dark red brickwork that the tracts are made from. I was fortunate to visit there in 1998 and that is the area the video for "Stop Me if You've Heard This One Before" was shot.
