UPDATE (July 11): This interview never took place and is completely made up. Please read Morrissey's response to the article.

Thanks to Monica for sending in the translation of the Zona 247 interview / chronicle and to the others who volunteered. A note from Monica: "...keep in mind that if something seems awkward, it's probably because Spanish likes to exaggerate and be somewhat dramatic. So I tried to stay true to that."

If the interviewer heard correctly, Morrissey mentions that he has finished a novel which might be released this year, does not have any new songs ready (although previously saying an album was written and ready to be recorded) and actually likes the idea of distributing over the internet.

Due to legal issues involving not being able to obtain approval to use the Elvis name, the title of the DVD is back to "Oye Esteban!" from "I Could've Been Elvis".

Also from Doro:

On the A Chance to Shine website news page, it says:
July 3rd 2000
Oye Esteban!
According to sources, the US only DVD release, Oye Esteban! will now be released on October 3rd. The title stays the same not any of the rumoured other titles. It may feature some different material than was originally thought and that's why it's been delayed...
---
I am not sure what 'rumoured other titles' he's referring to, but regarding "I Could've Been Elvis" - it definitely was not a rumor. If someone finds something wrong that appears on this site, have the courtesy to let me know or at least credit the mistake to the site.

Today (6 July'00) it's OFFICIALLY announced that: MORRISSEY's NOT playing at this year's Fuji Rock Fest.

The promoter SMASH explains as follows:

"We now, sadly, must announce that Morrissey is not playing at this year's Fuji Rock Festival. We were asked by many people re:Morrissey's appearance, if he definitely plays or not(*'cos we here heard loads of rumours too) and so we had been trying hard to get contact with him, to check the final confirmation by himself but he just KEPT SILENT so we decided to pull off from keeping his name on the list... we apologise for any inconvenience."
