The Man Who Came To Dinner
Relevance
One of Morrissey's favourite films - via NME interview (1983):
[Morrissey - "Portrait Of The Artist As A Consumer"]
Also contains the lines that were potentially a lyrical influence for Cemetry Gates:
"All those people, all those lives, where are they now ? Here was a woman who once lived and loved, full of the same passions, fears, jealousies, hates. And what remains of it now ... I want to cry."
The character name in this film: "Sheridan Whiteside" was use by Morrissey as an early pen name (pre-Smiths) and features twice as a matrix message on:
- "MURDER AT THE WOOL HALL" (x) STARRING SHERIDAN WHITESIDE" on I Started Something I Couldn't Finish
- "THE RETURN OF THE SUBMISSIVE SOCIETY" (x) STARRING SHERIDAN WHITESIDE" on Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
