Hi there

Pete Doherty has a record label ‘strap originals’ - they have had some decent acts for a fair few years now.

Anyway, in a recent interview Doherty (who is obsessed with Morrissey) expressed interest in helping get Morrissey’s new album out. Apparently they had tried to reach out to him, but to no success so far.

Interview here, sorry I can’t overly remember when the comments were but I think it was past half way.

It's not a 'major' record label though, so Morrissey won't be interested. He'd rather his albums remain unreleased than sign with a minor indie label.

Nice of Pete to offer. Maybe the email is sitting in the same junk folder as the Marr response to The Smiths reunion.

Yeah it is quite sweet as the interviewer asks whether Morrisey has ever spoken about Pete, and Pete acknowledged that Moz hasn’t been very complimentary over the years but he is ok with that.

That first Libertines album, Up the Bracket, will always be up there as one of the best albums of the noughties.
It's lovely that Pete reached out to Moz to help. Well done, Pete.

The interviewer also takes a swipe at the quality of Morrissey’s, but Pete then speaks highly of the autobiography.

As a side note, I’m currently reading the autobiography and have been stunned how well written and beautiful it is. I hear it may get worse after the early years, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. Parts of it reminds me of Bob Dylan’s fantastic Chronicles Vol (Sadly there never was a volume 2!!)

Yes. He has a real dexterity and skill, and his flow, combined with his architecture, is very uniquely his.

His creative expression has always delighted me - it’s why he is who he is, after all. And people love him and love what he does, because ultimately, creative expression is the external manifestation - or at least a partial external representation - of (a small part of) the internal self. His gift was to be able to share this in the ways that he has.

It’s also very easy to see that he understands instinctively how his songs/lyrics/books or thoughts placed on paper almost don’t even serve their purpose; if they don’t create a very beautiful dance. I love this, and he is completely masterful at this - and knows how to do it without even trying.

The end result is that his creative expression results in an extremely supple and very easy pleasure for me. It’s super gorgeous, and his abilities around his expression, his craft, and around his creative outputs are the rarest of treasures.

how do you even reach him if you did have a red hot offer???

Pete isn't quite correct in his recollection of Morrissey's view of The Libertines. The fact he included one of their songs in his compilation, Songs To Save Your Life, affirms to the whole world his high opinion.

Pete described it in glowing terms too, particularly the early parts about Morrissey's youth.

Formerly, Pete Galli of Red Light Management.
Now? Your guess is as good as mine.
Maybe loafing in an all-night chemist?
John Robb said Sam was the manager, which was never the case, officially anyway, as far is is known, though probably tasks were undertaken. These guys would have ways of reaching Morrissey. It's a nice idea, and lovely to see Pete and The Libertines being taken again with gusto to the bosom of the people 😍

That was funny when Pete asked the
guy if he had access to Moz.
Hopin' Pete can work it out.

Only time I saw The Libertines they were added as a second support act after Sack at Brixton Academy in 2002. They didn't get a great response, in fact someone chucked an empty plastic pint cup at the stage, which was pretty low-effort heckling. I don't think they were such a big deal at that point.
