Morrissey Central "Column." - Fiona Dodwell: ""The Smiths Do Not End" - And Never Will, Thanks To Morrissey" (August 18, 2024)

"The Smiths Do Not End"— And Never Will, Thanks To Morrissey.

Excerpt:

The Smiths were great for the same reason Morrissey as a solo artist is — yet, as he quite rightly points out — he has been demonised for the same qualities his seminal pop group were praised for. Nothing has changed for Morrissey, from the 80’s when he fronted the acclaimed group, up until the present, where he continues to challenge the narratives that overshadow society and the mainstream media.

These thoughts bring to mind the divisive flock who often rear their ugly heads on social media to proclaim their love of The Smiths, all the while saying they refuse to support the Morrissey of today. Such beliefs, founded on very shaky ground, are easily dismantled when one realises that The Smiths are the essence of Morrissey and one cannot divide him from their releases and cultural importance.

More ramblings from Diddy Dodders.

She's also very into Raggedy Anne Dolls and vintage ghosts stories. Hard times for freelancers all over the world these days. We know.

Guessing SER has forgotten the husband/Jesse 'issue'.
FWD.

He or they obviously feel there's a use for her. To have someone on your side, as it were. Obviously some won't look too pleased - but it is what it is.

This has Morrissey's paws all over it, this seems to be the point, if there is a point at all - if you love the Smiths, you have to love me, we are one - which is not true at all. I really do think he reads here.
Johnny is the one who is still the same and the steward of the Smiths now, which I think has something to do with Morrissey's recent claim that he's been erased from the Smiths.

Added to OP and made a Central Post title to avoid repetition of the same link.
He doesn't have any intention of fixing the damage he's done to his career, and he can't just order us to hold him in the same regard we hold the Smiths, via FiDo's ramblings no less. Johnny would not do anything so stupid, he goes out and talks to the real press about the Smiths and that is probably just part of the reason he is being seen as the custodian of the legacy. He would never rely on Miss Piggy to speak for him and make it all about him.

I'm FiDo.. I'm Morrissey's "journalist" lapdog.

Arf! Arf! Arf-Arf!!!

tf;dr

too fawning, didn't read

I've grown up with Morrissey, since mid-1983. I've never revered him as some kind of god, he's just a person. The Smiths were "my band", but, for example, I didn't become vegetarian when MiM was released. In my opinion, Morrissey hasn't changed. If you don't like him now, you probably wouldn't have liked him then.

She must have a massive chest if she still hasn't got Morrissey and his detractors off of it.

'The Smiths are the essence of Morrissey and one cannot divide him from their releases and cultural importance.'

Well, yes, this is true because Morrissey has based his entire solo circus clown career on being a self-karaoke version of himself when he was 25% of The Smiths.

This woman is clearly delusional. She probably thinks Morrissey was more important than the other three members of The Smiths.

I wonder how Morrissey copes when the ghost of Andy Rourke appears at the foot of his bed and taunts him with all the bass lines that could've been if Morrissey and Marr hadn't been such absolutely greedy, grasping bastards. Now, their joint legacy is absolutely trashed...karma is a real fcukin bitch, Steven...

Suck it up because your Reputation cannot be redeemed. End of.

This Fiona bint is absolutely barking lads!

RIP Andy Rourke. 🙏

Dodwell is an embarrassment and a hack,
but she's right about Morrissey's role in the Smiths; Morrissey was the Smiths. Without him there is no Smiths.
