Review of Boston/Providence shows (with pic)

From Jimmy McDonald:

There is a review of the Boston/Providence shows at www.section3.com

In the frame on the left there is a link to live shows and from there there is a link to the review.

There are more pictures from Providence and I will provide a link to them as soon as I talk to the publisher of Section 3 and either put them up at my own site or have him put them back up at his site.

Oct 29 97 - Wednesday

"London"

...made its debut on this tour last night in Irvine, as the encore song.

Oct 28 97 - Tuesday

"Trouble Loves Me"

...made its debut on the tour last night in Thousand Oaks.

Finland - more info

From Antti M Simola:

This morning’s Helsingin Sanomat had following news: Moz will play in Helsinki 5.12 in Jäähalli (icehall) and tickets will be sold in Lippupalvelu, starting Thursday 30.10. There are about 3000 tickets on sale (I don’t know why; in some ice-hockey games there have been about 8000 spectators).

Oct 27 97 - Monday

"The Queen Is Dead"

...was the encore song in Claremont.

Oct 26 97 - Sunday

Review of San Francisco, 2nd show

Thanks to splene for this:

There’s another review from the SF show by Johnny Ray Huston in his "OutLoud" column in the San Francisco Bay Guardian. It’s rather good - he’s got much more insight into the Morrissey phenomenon than other reviewers I’ve read.

The Smiths in the NFL

More Moz/Smiths in the mainstream media in the strangest places -- I was just watching the Broncos-Bills game on NBC and they did a profile on two defensive players, Bruce Smith and Neil Smith, with a caption of "The Smiths". I thought it was just a coincidence, but then "How Soon Is Now?" began playing in the background.

* The tour has returned to Southern California so I may be kept busy for a while. Hopefully within a couple of weeks I will have some time to compile all the info on the past dates everyone has sent. I haven't received any info on the Albuquerque show yet, so please send it if you've got it.

* added some new links: "A Place in HELL", Moz.net, "Passions Just Like Mine" and "A Chance To Shine" fanzine to the links section. Check them out.

Oct 24 97 - Friday

"Banned For The Band"

Thanks to Donald H Hartley for this from the London Evening Standard (10-23):

‘Banned For The Band’

Morrissey, former lead singer of The Smiths, is currently inflicting his depressing droning on the North Americans. The militant vegetarian, miserable as ever, has told his support band that if they eat meat in his presence, he will gobble them up.

The support band realise that being deprived of a healthy amount of animal flesh has had a long-term effect on the singer, and are warily taking him at his word, hiding their bacon sandwiches when the gloomy Mancunian hovers into view.

'He just doesn’t like people with meat to come anywhere near him' explains Mr Morrissey’s spokesman.

Phoenix info

Thanks to Jim Duke, Matt Smiley and Jase for providing great summaries of the Phoenix concert, pretty much right after they got home from the show! The tour page has been updated.

Rumor - more dates in the UK

From Gazza:

There are some as yet unconfirmed rumors that Morrissey will play Dublin on 12th December 1997 and wait for it 2 nights at Chester, England on 15 & 16 December. Also "Satan Rejected My Soul" is to be released as a single to coincide with the UK dates.

Lowell (11/22) - more info

From Jimmy McDonald:

I called around and got some additional info for people planning to buy tickets for this show.

1) The show is reserved seating.
2) The venue holds 2800 people
3) Ticketmaster starts selling tix at 10am while the venue doesn’t open its box office until noon, so hop on the phone instead of making the trek to Lowell.

Raleigh tix again (or "ticketmaster is nothin but a bunch of dirty liars...")

From Catie:

I called ticketmaster again, and they reconfirmed that tickets go on sale today (friday), but when i showed up at the outlet at 10:00am, and went in to purchase my tickets, the girl said they didn’t go on sale until tomorrow... so, i’m just writing to clear up mis-information. tickets do go on sale SATURDAY, OCT. 25th, 1997. (just beware, if you are going to an outlet to purchase your tickets, PRINCE tickets go on sale tomorrow, so things COULD get kinda ugly. )

New Brunswick - confirmation/details

From Thomas:

I’ve called the place at which Morrissey is playing at and they said the tickets were going on sale this Monday. Oh yeah it's at the State Theater in New Brunswick NJ.

Cincinnati - tix on sale Sat. Oct. 25, 10:00 AM

Glen Burnie -- a strange venue choice...

From Jane: "Michael’s 8th Avenue in Glen Burnie is an interesting place to hold a show! It is the local wedding reception hall and isn’t the most glamourous of locations (but depending on what room it’s in - it may feature a lovely circular staircase) - anyone who is going and needs directions should email me..."

Raleigh tix - a warning

From catie:

This is a warning for all people looking to buy tickets for the RALEIGH Morrissey show... all of the printed information about the tickets for THE RITZ in RALEIGH says that the tickets go on sale on saturday, oct. 25th, but i called, and the tickets DO go on sale on friday, the 24th! please don’t be fooled by all of the adverts!!

Key West - venue

From Robert: "The Key West venue is the San Carlos Institute. I have not been able to find out too much information on it. I never saw it on the ticketmaster website, but a friend of mine has tickets to the show."

Texas -- at least one date forthcoming?

I have now heard a few rumors that Morrissey will be playing somewhere in Texas... if it's true, an announcement should be made soon, I imagine.

Elcka interview online

Thanks to Brian Cohen for letting me know that the interview he did with Elcka is now on The Michigan Daily Online, here. The article is titled "Catchy Elcka has 'Nothing to Lose'".

Maladjusted in GQ

From Joubin:

GQ (Great Britain Issue) gave Maladjusted 4 out of 5. It was a short review, and said that Morrissey is back on form after Southpaw Grammar, but 'surely a call to Johnny Marr is due'.

The announcement or the lack of an announcement was just made yesterday, October 16. I called Famous Barr at 7:50 p.m. Friday night and they just found out that they are selling tickets for the show October 18, 1997." (Which is today, Saturday).

Maladjusted reviewed in Alternative Press

Someone may have e-mailed this info earlier but it seems to have been lost in the shuffle. Just got this from Robert:

Just thought you might wanna know that Alternative Press features a glowing review of Maladjusted in their new issue (Oasis is on the cover). It gets a 5 finger out of 5 rating ("essential") and the review itself is very right on. Finally someone in the press gets it right. Plus a nice photo of Moz.

Elcka - return to support in the UK

From Rachel Mckeon:

"From the recently-added page about Elcka’s debut album (on the Island website):

Elcka will be on tour in the UK as support to Morrissey - dates to be announced.

And from the news section:

Morrisey [sic!] is currently touring in the US and should be reaching these shores in the New Year.

So hopefully we should have a full tour to look forward to, on top of the Battersea show."

Oct 15 97 - Wednesday

New Support Band For The 2nd Leg

From Jason: "The Smoking Popes will replace Elcka as support to Morrissey on the rest of the tour..." Elcka has commitments to promoting their debut album in England, from what I understand.
