Minneapolis - cancelled
From Rob Barnett:
I got a call from the
Guthrie theater (the Minneapolis venue), they said the MOZ show on the 29th,
has been canceled. Ticket holders need to send their tickets into the Guthrie theater, by
October 13th.
From Patrick Guarasci:
According to the Guthrie
Theatre, Morrissey canceled his Minneapolis show, scheduled for Monday the 29 of October,
because his "voice gave out this weekend at another show."
This is terrible. I hope the Moz is gets better. Who knows maybe hell make it back
to the Twin Cities to do a make up show?
From Jess Cox:
COME BACK MORRISSEY!
please! Ive been waiting for years to see him in concert... and never thought I
would... and then 24 hours before the scheduled concert, it is cancelled! Morrissey:
please reschedule!!!
Hopefully the 4 day rest before the next scheduled concert,
Vancouver on Oct. 2 will be enough...
The "Chicago flu"
Aragon Ballroom - Day 1
From Garrison Poppe:
Friday nights show took
place at the Aragon ballroom, atop a nearly 8 foot high stage. It would have been
impossible to scale such a height and Morrissey could not even get close enough to shake
hands with the crowd. Morrissey announced that he was suffering from a case of the
"Chicago flu, but Im a big boy, and life goes on." The set list was about
the same, and Morrissey was his typical genius... we expect as much from him but it is
still amazing to see him come through.
Riviera Theatre - Day 2
I have started the full summary page. Thanks
to Rick, Monte
Householter, Justin North, Alison Olcott, and Garrison Poppe for sending the excellent info.
Here's a brief summary of what happened, from Garrison:
Saturday was a different
story. The crowd was packed in tight at the Riviera Theatre, and limp bodies were
constantly being passed to security over the railing. Moz was close enough to touch, but
no brave ones made it to the stage. He stopped the band in the middle of what I think was
the 7th song, "Satan Rejected My Soul," after musical mistakes and
skipped straight to "Maladjusted." After that it was "Now My Heart is
Full" and he was gone. 25 minutes, no Smiths, no encore. The crowd stood dazed as the
house lights came on and his personnel dismantled the stage. There was repeated
booingat thunderous volumes, a chant of "Bullshit," and several
"Morrissey sucks" yelled from an increasingly angry crowd. The crowd also began
throwing plastic beer cups and garbage at the roadies on stage. The one dollar per minute
ticket price deserved an explanation of why he left, and no one seemed to have any
answers. Well, he had been fighting the flu...?
Claremont
Thanks to Jose Gomez for the info from an ad in
today's LA Times, Calendar section: "Morrissey - Sunday, October 26 - on sale
Saturday, October 4th @ noon - Bridges Auditorium - at the Claremont colleges
- information: 909.621.8032". Claremont is somewhere around Los Angeles.
* Capacity of the venue is 2500 and it is assigned seating, info from Mike ZeMans.
Denver
First at spotting the Denver, CO info on Ticketmaster's website is Jason: "Macky Auditorium - Sun Nov 2, 1997
8:00PM".
That "Brit Girls" documentary - postponed or...?
According to Naomi, the "Brit
Girls" documentary that was to begin airing on UK television on the 27th "..
seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth, for now at least. The fact that The
Spice Girls appear on it means that it probably will get aired eventually."
"Roy's Keen" reviewed
From Stefan Krix:
There´s a three line
review of the "Roy´s Keen" single at http://www.dotmusic.com/MWreviews.html,
getting only two dots for the "ode to a window cleaner"...
Sep 26 97 - Friday
Albuquerque
From Robert: "He is playing at the Hiland
Theatre in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Oct 24th...... I got this info
from the Ticketmaster weekly on sale.... tickets go on sale 9/29..."
JAMtv broadcast - Elcka, tonight
From an anonymous e-mailer:
Elcka live in Chicago
will be webcast on JAMtv (www.jamtv.com) this Friday
evening. No definite word on Morrissey himself at this time.
Ann Arbor - some info
I will hopefully have time to compile info on all the concerts this weekend, but for now,
thanks to Sunil Sawani for this summary:
The Ann Arbor show was
excellent.. Elka opened and I caught half of their act, and after about half an hour, the
sampled drum intro from The Operation played, and Morrissey and the band came out...
Morrissey greeted the audience "Hello Manchester!" and went into Maladjusted..
The setlist was about the same as most of the show you went to, with exceptions such as
Now My Heart is Full, and he didnt play Sunny. Later in the show, he said
"Thank you Manchester." and even later he said "I know this isnt
Manchester... and Im glad." to audience uproar...
For the encore, he came out in a Michigan Swimming shirt (as this is the University of
Michigan campus.... yay Michigan!!! Where Im currently attending!)... that got quite
a crowd response, and of course, the encore was Shoplifters...
In total I think 6 people made in onto stage and got escorted off...
I HAD A GREAT TIME!
Suedehead: Best Of - #31 in 2nd week on charts
(UK)
Thanks to Stephane Daigle for the info that
it dropped from 26 to 31 in its second week on the charts. Not bad considering it is a
compilation without any new tracks.
Slugweb - tour info
Thanks to Angela for letting me know she's got
some tour experiences on her website, Slugweb.
Included are stories from Boston, Philadelphia and NY, with photos and even some sound
files from the concert in Boston. From her story of meeting Boz at a Philadelphia
steakhouse, apparently the Philadelphia show was Morrissey's favorite, up to that point.
Sep 24 97 - Wednesday
Time To Update
Above is a pic of the all-access Maladjusted Tour laminate, sorry -- it's a bit out of
focus. The funny picture is of two men in a swimming pool, smiling (suggestive, perhaps?).
I heard that one of the men is actor Robert Wagner. I did not take many other photos --
none at the actual concert. I did take a few outside the venues and will eventually post
them up when I do the summaries for each show -- perhaps by this weekend.
So far I have not received very many photos from others -- if you have any please try to
help out and send them! JPEGed attachments through e-mail is usually the best way.
However, I have received several written accounts from each concert, please do keep them
coming. Don't be shy!
Marc Bolan Documentary
Thanks to Stephen.B
for the "...glimpse of Moz on the UK ch. 4 documentary on Marc Bolan (Sept. 16). He
only had a couple of seconds paying credit to Marc."
Also, from Naomi, "...Morrissey -
speaking from his car! - said about four things, but I can't really remember what because
I'm still reeling from the sight of Johnny Rogan's beard."
"Roy's Keen" Single (UK) - Oct.
6
From Stefan
Sahlander, "According to the Island record news the release
date for 'Morrisey' (misspelled again!), 'Roy's Keen' - Oct. 6."
Some details of the UK promo from Naomi:
The sleeve is one of the
loveliest for some time, a shot I assume from some British film or other - two lads in the
foreground, one throwing a football and another holding a bicycle aloft. "roy's
keen" is written in lower case in the same colour as the inlay - a very attractive
shade of maroon. It's all very nice indeed really, it could have easily been a Smiths
sleeve.
As its a radio promo, there's only one track on it...
"That's Entertainment" -
postponed or cancelled?
From Naomi: "...it's been quietly
dropped from the EMI release schedules. My guess is that Morrissey found out about it
:)"
Michael from London adds:
I just spoke to someone
at Parlophone, "Thats Entertainment" has been postponed for a couple of
weeks because of b-side problems (whatever that means!!) but it will be released sometime
in the next few weeks.
And a possible explanation from Stefan
Krix:
Sad news from the UK: The
Ltd. Edition of "Suedehead: Best Of" is finally dead and will never see the
light of day again. According to EMI it was cancelled because the tracks of the second CD
should appear of the B-Side of "That's Entertainment".
But the UK faces chaos due to Elton John's "Candle In The Wind '97". All CD
pressing plants are overworked, so all mayor record companies postponed new releases for 1
or 2 weeks. EMI postponed dates until Mid-October!
It seems that they all fear to drown beneath the Diana Tribute.
Kalamazoo - some info
Thanks to John for the info, so far the only info
I've gotten on this show:
Moz gave a stellar
performance tonight (9-23) in Kalamazoo. the crowd was a little slow in getting riled up,
but in the end, the stage rush during Shoplifters was a pleasing sight. Moz announced
during the show, "Thank you Kalamazoo... you are very sssssexy."
Suedehead: Best Of charts at #26
From Holly, the compilation debuts at #26
on the UK album charts for week 37 (15 Sept 97).
Cleveland review
Thanks to Andy for the link to a review in the Akron Beacon
Journal.
* Site-related - I know there has been a problem with the realaudio
files on the site -- I hope to have time to work on a fix hopefully within a week.

Just Returned
I survived my week and a half trip to the east coast and after catching my breath I see
that I have loads of updating to do. Thanks to everyone who sent info and pictures during
this time, I will try to get to it all during the week.
As for the trip I enjoyed most meeting friends I had not seen since the last tour and also
new friends I have made since beginning this site. It was also great to get away for a
while -- a week feels like about 3 weeks with the hectic travel schedule. The shows were
of course enjoyable but I will confirm what others have been posting on the discussion
board, he does seem decidedly distant from the audience.
For now here is some info from last night's Cleveland show and a few new tour dates.
Cleveland - info
Thanks to Andrew Shiue for the
info:
I just got back from the
Cleveland concert. It started with the drum solo sampled from "The Operation"
Morrissey and band came out in the strobe lights, and he said "Goodbye,
Cleveland..." and they broke into "The Teachers Are Afraid of the Pupils"
Very energetic concert. No merchandise. The concert ended abruptly with "Satan
Rejected My Soul" unfinished. Morrissey was towards the center of the stage. He
didnt reach out, he was just looking at an area. Anyway, he sang like
"...rejected my soul....face around...heaven doesnt seem..." Then, he just
walked off, and took Boz with him. Boz took Bridgwood and Spencer subsquently left. Alain
was exiting stage right as well and shouted towards the area Morrissey was looking at
"You just ruined the gig" and gave the finger on both hands. Although, I was in
the very front up against the barricade (which incidentally seemed really far away from
the stage), I could see what was going on maybe 15 people over from me. Some guy in that
area ran out supposedly, and security took some guy wearing a Smiths shirt over the
barricade and escorted him out. Im surprised the crowd didnt kill him.
Anyway, rumour had it that the guy had a sign that said "Mike Joyce:1,
Morrissey:0" The band came back to play to play "Shoplifters..."
Phoenix
From J. Russel Reid: "Morrissey is playing at
the AZ state fairgrounds Weds. Oct 22 for seven dollars plus fair
admisssion. Tickets have been on sale since Wednesday but the anouncement did not come
until yesterday (9-18)."
Petaluma
From The Comtesse DeSpair: "Morrissey has
added a show at the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma on October 6th."
Petaluma is in northern California, I'm told by Shirley Palma.
Manchester
From Naomi: "Manchester (venue
unknown as of yet) on my birthday, January 5th. It's listed at NME.com if
you doubt me... as if you would :)"
Sep 12 97 - Friday
The Tour Is On
I am now on the road, I'm planning to see the first 7 shows. Morrissey arrived in Toronto
yesterday (Sept. 11) and everything looks like a go. Even though I am on the road, I will
still try to update the website whenever I can find the resources, energy and time. To
make it a bit easier, I will just update in text format, check the table below and also
the discussion boards for the latest.
Please continue to send any info, pictures or stories from the tour and elsewhere, as I
will still be relying mainly on all of you for the info. Thanks. By the way, even 'the
sanest days are mad' during the tour so I probably will not be able to e-mail anyone back
during the next week.
Elcka is the opening act, as confirmed in the Montreal Mirror. Thanks
to S.A.M. for the info.
