Maladjusted — another #1

On the "Charts"
page of the October 2, 1997 issue of Rolling Stone, it lists Maladjusted as
NUMBER 1 on the Alternative Albums chart. The issues alternative chart was based on sales
at Aron’s Records in Los Angeles.
Suedehead - Best Of, more info

Got the CD today.
Morrissey has abbreviated two songs in his handwriting : "WHIWOFB Successful"
and "TLOTFI Playboys".
The inner sleeve has a listing of the tracks, and "The Parlophone Years" where
they’ve had the cheek to put the new awful cover of Viva Hate instead of the
beautiful old one.
No sign of any limited CDs, so I suppose that’s settled it.

OK, OK, so perhaps I was
hasty in saying that the weekly press wouldn't review Suedehead - Best Of. NME
gives it 8/10 today, and the Melody Maker gives it their highest possible rating: (ahem)
"Bloody Essential", concluding that "Existing fans will find this an
irresistable opportunity to paddle in his glory once again. For those yet untouched,
consider this a blind leap into his genius."
Also, the double vinyl version of the LP will be released on Monday (the 15th), but
without the now-mythical extra tracks.
Glad to be the purveyor of good news for once...

Here’s a fine whine that has mellowed without developing any engaging complexities.
"It’s my own life to wreck my own way," the British singer moans on Alma
Matters. The sorrow and defeat on He Cried and Trouble Loves Me prove poignant, but
Morrissey’s brooding self-absorption never seems less relevant than in the title
track’s grating melodrama or the bleak Wide to Receive ("I don’t get along
with myself, and I’m not to keen on anyone else"). The humor in closing track
Satan Rejected My Soul comes too late to disentangle Maladjusted from it’s depressing
straightjacket.

San Diego

Mora: "I just heard on 91X that tickets for the Morrissey concert on October
10th at Hospitality Point in San Diego will go on sale Saturday, September 13th
at all Ticketmaster." Additional info from Mike
ZeMans: "Tix $27.50 GA - includes parking... I do not know the
exact capacity of Hospitality Point but would guess around 2,500. It’s an outdoor
venue (actually just a grass field) right on the bay just north of downtown."
Famed Swede talks about Moz

Author, poet and
screenwriter Peter Birro appeared on Swedish Radio, P3, yesterday. P3 is Sweden´s number
one national station and is heard throughout the country. Birro was described as "The
biggest Morrissey fan in Sweden" and was interviewed for nearly 20 minutes. The
station played "Roy´s Keen", "He Cried" and "Shoplifters Of The
World Unite". Birro was asked questions like "When did you first hear
Morrissey?" and "What does he mean to you?" But, most interestingly, he was
asked about the racist accusations that have been made against Morrissey. "That´s
bullshit", Birro said, "No one is as honest as Morrissey. He has touched upon
the subjects just because he wants to inform us about the prejudices that do exist. No one
is as naked as Morrissey. There isn´t any other artist in history of music that has come
close to him. He makes art out of pop music." All-in-all, I was really glad that
Morrissey songs were aired and it was great fun hearing someone as intelligent as Peter
talk about the greatness of Morrissey. Peter Birro has written two novels and a play
called "Hammarkullen", which has been filmed and will be televised on November
10 in Sweden. The play is about an Swedish suburb and focuses on it´s segregated
population. It´s a profound tale of the struggles amongst class and racial prejudices.
Birro is currently working on two new scripts.
Montreal - venue did NOT change
Thanks to those who were quick to confirm that the venue did not
change. From Fabrice Bessaguet: "I just
called the Théatre Saint-Denis to know if the concert has been moved to another venue and
they told me that there has been no change, that it was still to be there, as
scheduled."
And from Stepane Daigles: "...If
anything, unlike what the rumour says, tickets sales are not better than expected, but
worse. A few hundred tickets are still available for this concert, one of the few still
not sold out on the new tour. I then called the Metropolis and they have heard nothing to
do with Morrissey. I guess it must have been wishful thinking on some fans part.
Metropolis would be the ideal venue for a Morrissey concert."

"That's Entertainment" - Sep. 22 (UK)
I overlooked this note earlier from Stefan
Krix: "According to my record dealer, "That´s Entertainment" will be
released as a single on September 22 in the UK on 7’, 12’ and CD5. He has no
information about possible B-Sides."

Suedehead Best Of - released yesterday

It definitely was
released today (Monday) and, scarily enough, seems to have more posters around Bournemouth
promoting it than "Maladjusted" did. The packaging is nothing special, with the
rejected "Glamorous Glue" shot, the tracklisting in Morrissey’s handwriting
and nothing else of any note whatsoever. It just looks like the fairly superfluous
money-grabbing exercise that it is. It has the EMI 100 logo on it (like "Viva
Hate" did) which is a bit of a giveaway in that respect. There’s an ad in the
new issue of Q (with Radiohead on the cover) if you really need to see it. But no review
has been granted, as in the weekly press.
The Tour
If anyone hears Morrissey has shown up in Toronto please let me know. I
don't mean to scare anyone or anything, but that bit of info will definitely put to rest
some rumors I have been hearing...
San Diego - Oct. 10?

I heard today on The
Flash radio in San Diego that Morrissey will be in concert on Oct 10. No news when tickets
will go on sale yet.
Vegas / L.A. notes
More tickets were released and still available for the Las Vegas show,
info from Robert. And apparently L.A. sold out
in 3 minutes, according to Candace.

The "Suedehead-best
of" limited edition version is cancelled. I was informed on this matter from the
Swedish EMI and I also called the well known record store Sister Ray in London. They had
the same news.
It was supposed to be released today, but the above-mentioned
sirencd page is listing a date one week from today.

TFI Friday (UK) - postponed or cancelled?

I read in this week’s NME that Morrissey was supposed to be guesting on
today’s TFI Friday [Sept. 5] on Channel 4. Due to all of the
coverage of the Princess Diana event it has been put back to next Friday instead.
As this will only be on air on British television obviously
you won’t be able to see it, but some of the people which read your web pages living
in England may be interested. I would guess that he would perform one song and then be
interviewed by Chris Evans, the presenter of the programme.
As Morrissey is scheduled to begin the tour in Toronto next Friday,
I would assume the appearance is cancelled.
L.A. / The Greek - sold out in less than 6 minutes

Seattle - brisk ticket sales

Italian TV Special - Sep. 8

The tour will be starting in exactly one week, that's right -- one
week. Things have been quite busy around here lately and although I am a bit tired,

Live on JamTV?

I was just listening to
the Smoking Popes live broadcast from Chicago on JamTv (JamTv.com)
and the djs hinted that the Morrissey Chicago show may be broadcast (audio and video) over
the internet.
One of the djs from JamTv also mentioned that it is rumored that The Smoking Popes will be
opening for Morrissey on a few of his European tour dates. Just a rumor though.

Boorer makes a guest appearence. He plays Outro guitar for about 30 seconds on

#1 in German critic's charts

In the top 100 of the
German album charts "Maladjusted" fell down from position 76 to this week’s
89.
But a big surprise for me was MOZZER’s position in the September-issue of the ROLLING
STONE GERMANY. After a brilliant review (4.5 of 5) of "Maladjusted" and position
10 in the top 20 of the Critics' charts in August he now entered this month’s number
1(!!!). In the readers’ charts he didn’t reach the top 20 yet.

Who Really Broke Up The Smiths

The first Morrissey TV
interview since the South Bank Show!
On 27th September, at 9pm a 5-part documentary series on 60s "Brit Girls" starts
on Channel 4. At some point during the series, Morrissey talks about his love of
sixties-style Girl Power and blames Cilla Black for causing the break-up of The Smiths
(because Johnny baulked at recording "Work is a Four-Letter Word", of course).
According to the director of the series, John Piper, "He's a huge Lulu fan and has
quite a lot of theories about her and her songs. "Genius gibberish" was how he
described them."
There's more about this in the October edition of Select. "Suedehead" is also
reviewed, getting 4/5. "Striptease" et al are not mentioned, which seems to
confirm that the extra disc has been ditched.
What else? The November issue of Select will carry a free CD on which Morrissey will be
featured. And that really is it.

about the Portland, Oregon venue - La Luna... it is the smallest venue on
the tour by far. I cannot imagine that more than 600-800 people fit in the entire
thing."
Maladjusted plummets in the US

Unlike the UK charts however, it may rebound and reach higher ground later.
German charts
