PETA Sponsors Smiths Tribute

People For the Ethical Treatmen of Animals are apparently giving long-overdue props to the man who declared eating meat an act of murder back when Chrissie Hynde was still rocking the red, leather motorcycle jackets. The animal rights group will sponsor New York City's first-ever tribute to Morrissey and the Smiths this month (March 24 at legendary downtown nightclub Don Hills). According to a post from our friends in The Salford Lads (the city's best... and...er... only Smiths tribute band), the event will feature Smiths ephemera giveaways, a Morrissey look-a-like contest, DJs spinning all things Mozzer all night long (please don't hang them), and, of course, two sets by the Lads. Go to www.thesalfordlads.com for further info. Morrissey (the real one), possibly the world's biggest unsigned act, kicks off his first ever tour of Mexico and South America on March 24.

I WILL BE THERE, BUT NOT TO SEE THE LADS. THEIR COMMENTS IN OUT REALLY OFFENDED ME; BEING A MORRISSEY AND SMITHS FAN DOESNT AUTOMATICALLY EXCLUDE ONE FROM BEING HOMOPHOBIC.

Do we really need to spark the homophobia discussion again? You're obviously an idiot, Giles, if you think those comments were homophobic - they were anything but! Why don't you do everyone a favor and stay home!

Why would OUT magazine print an interview with homophobes? Giles, I hope you do come, and meet us before you beat us. Yes we have phobias, but not homophobia. (In fact, my biggest phobia would have to be of homophobes themselves. Giles, if you only knew how many times I've been dragged behind the bleachers by the school bully after school simply because of what I like to refer to as my "excessive charm.") The exagerated comments in OUT were taken "out" of context. (A delicious pun...) They were, in fact, intended to show how insignificant of a factor sexuality is at a Morrissey show. As Ezra said, "people forget things like sexuality and lose themselves in the music." I forgot my sexuality long ago. (And I can't for the life of me remember what it is.) Please come and judge for yourself this Friday. I promise you total chaos, and mild hair loss.
love,
Immler

Does anybody know if this show is 21+?...or are they being munificent and making it only 18+?

I'm driving down from Boston for this party--it better be great! I heard a rumor that
if you wear a Smiths or Morrissey t-shirt you get in for free. Please let me know if there is any truth to this.

How does the PETA people feel about the fact that Moz is really into Gucci? And what does Moz think of the recent PETA attack on MR. Gucci himself, Tom Ford? Mozzer in fur?
