you have to give him some respect cause without him you would never habe had the other half of THE SMITHS. for all those who seem to not like him must be a bunch of rebel poser from smog angeles but for those who have been there since the beginning i know you understand.

Lets face it, Moz wouldn´t be where he is without Johnny Marr. I think most Moz fans used to be Smiths fans, so why not have him involved on this site.
Looking forward to hear The Healers album.

I agree with Lifeguard, Johnny's official site is terrible! Especially the Q&A - it's embarassing! There's a reason Moz did all the talking for the Smiths.

That said, I will run out and by the Healers' album if Johnny ever finds a record label. I'm looking forward to hearing from him again after he wasted most of the past decade.

I always love to hear what Johnny is up to. OK, OK, so it's a Morrissey site, but it's also partly a Smiths site.

If it wasn't for Johnny, the world wouldn't have Moz, right?

I feel so sad reading these comments. So, is Kill Uncle better than Queen is Dead? Johnny only played guitar didn't he? Come to think of it, Morrissey should have just had some barely competent indie band play back-up for him.

Go back and listen to Smiths albums and you'll find there's a special magic there, that generally his solo stuff cannot capture. There is a reason most of his fans love Smiths music more than solo. You can't escape from your past, so at least acknowledge it.

Marr has his own website for those who would like to know what he's up to (apparently trying to be part of the current British scene). Even though Johnny is a great guitar player, it seems that we have evidence enough that without Morrissey, his music lacks something special.

If Marr news in somewhat related or a reference to Morrissey or the Smiths in general. I believe we would all love to hear it. But if i have to read a J Marr gig review or an (if it comes out) album review or who's new in his band...then please save it for JMARR.com.

I love how Johnny smartly skipped aroung the E.T. lash that Morrissey said at one of his shows.

Someone has to tell someone at JMARR.com to create a format similar to this one at MOrrissey-solo. It would be greatly improved along with the Q&A which i love if you can get passed all the "so are you and MOrrissey going to reunite" type questions. Delete those at all cost please.
Plus which quitar pick or amp did he use for god knows which one of his songs. it gets a bit to technical at times.

Just a rant...

And for something different, it's obvious
Johnny is doing something, Morrissey is to
afraid to release an album, because he knows
it have to be good [$][quality],and if it isn't
he's out in the musicindustry and really alone.

I will love em till the end but the musicindustry
will not. I would rather see him stop at the top,

it's very sad all this contempt for Mr Marr. The union of moz and johnny was something magical and holy--a miracle too great for words. so they have gone their separate ways and it hurts, but
johnny does deserve a certain amount of respect for the contribution he has made not only to music, but to our lives--he is as much responsible for saving mine as morrissey is. where would iwe be without the intoxicating mix of johnny's chords to take us away and moz's voice/words to take shelter in.

I weep for the loss of The Smiths. I also weep because they didn't become my favorite band until a decade after they broke up.

I'm reading THE SEVERED ALLIANCE by Johnny Rogan, to learn more about the greatest band ever, but I'm getting bogged down in the details of Morrissey's Grandfathers soccer carreer.

I perfer Morrissey to Marr. His words (Morrissey) speak directly to my heart. However, I'll admit Marr's music moves me unlike any others.

I liked Electronic and I like Morrissey's solo stuff. Without both of them together though, it really IS NOT the same. Anyway I do go on...

Thank you for listening,

I vote for MORE Marr stuff because. I'm a little tired of reading that so-and-so mentioned he likes a Morrissey song. Whoa, stop the presses! Oh for god's sake...

First of all, if you flick back through the archives of this site, you'll notice that approximately 99% of what makes it onto the front page is whether or not Veruca f**king Salt have mentioned them in an interview for 5 seconds, or how a Smiths title has been used (again) in the press. Oooh, let's keep this ever-so precious clique just confined to the greying bloke with the quiff eh?

Frankly, if there is hard news related in any way, shape or form to Morrissey - and lets face it, no other individual is more synonymous with Moz than Johnny Marr is - then there is always going to be a glad ear somewhere visiting this site that wouldn't mind hearing about it. Johnny Marr is active (the man was playing Smiths material as recently as last year, for god's sake), and so I reckon this is as valid an arena for circulating this information as anywhere.

Obviously, I do hold him responsible for Oasis to some extent, but that's another matter entirely...

Before writing about someone who took a picture of his pubic hair forming Morrissey's face under the shower (as someone here quite wittily commented on the impressive amount of useless information sent by some people), I'd rather prefer reading interesting stuff about Johnny Marr. I had the luck to meet Johnny this March in Manchester's Café Pop and talked to him for a while. All I can say is that he is the nicest guy on earth and most importantly, he was asking me whether I saw Morrissey on his current tour, and I felt as there were no bad feelings towards Morrissey at all when we went on talking about him. If some people here on this site knew Johnny, they'd definitely stop writing bad things about him.

i think it's nice to have some tidbits of info in marr, as it would be nice to see what the remaining smiths are up to... although this is a morrissey solo site, i frequently see snippets of info regarding smiths articles, dvd's, etc...and remember, as much as we all love and adore morrissey, he was not the only smith... marr doesn't hate morrissey, from what i gathered, he just wants to focus on the future... the same as morrissey is doing, though he's sweetened us up with a few smiths songs...: )

I am relieved to see by the last dozen postings that this topic has taken on a more positve outlook. Let's not take leave of our senses and act like a mob. When two people produce the kind of masterpieces Morrissey and Marr did, they will be inevitably linked together eternally.

When The Smiths were rumoured to have split back in August 1987, I happened to be visiting friends in Manchester. I first glimpsed the video of "Girlfriend In A Coma" whilst having a drink in a pub, and thought of "Strangeways,..." being such a great record...yet this would be their last? My only hope was that Morrissey would continue his musical career. As soon as "Viva Hate" was released, nothing else mattered! Perhaps if Morrissey did not continue for whatever reason, then maybe I would have found fault with Marr.

Hello, people, if it wasn't for Johnny, there would be no Morrissey. It was Johnny who discovered Morrissey and asked him to record material with him.
Johnny still rocks, and is easily the most talented of The Smiths.
He deserves every bit of attention he can get on here.
At least he ANSWERS his email questions.
We're still waiting for Moz to get his s#h#i#t in gear and have an official site or at least a Q&A session on here.

Noooooo!
David, please listen to the fans saying No.

I started late as a fan so I back-tracked via HMV imports and first bought "The Smiths", and then each album in chronological order, continued with Moz until I eventually caught up with the bugger somewhere around "Your Arsenal".

By the time I had reached this point I found Smiths songs resembled an old relative - something that smelt a bit different to everybody else - it wasn't where I wanted to be but I visited occasionally just to make sure my memory wasn't over romantic.

I enjoyed Moz (and th'lads) performing Smiths songs on the Oye Estaban tour because it was obvious that Morrissey enjoyed playing them - but ask Johnny Marr to write a song with the sentiment of 'Jack the Ripper', 'Trouble Loves Me', 'Now My Heart Is Full' ..... etc ..... etc and where would he be? Writing songs with an electric beat...

Please, please, do not mention Gerry Marrs name ever again!

Well, I know I'm walking into a deathtrap here, but I like Johnny. I don't know much about him personally, but his music is to die for. I don't see why everyone dislikes him. Even Morrissey has talked about his fantastic music and how great it was.
And I read somewhere up there about 'The Smiths broke up a long time ago. Get over it'. What is that supposed to mean? Get over the band, they aren't around anymore, so stop listening to them? I'm sure that's not it. Or does it mean that we should stop worrying about Johnny's music in the Smiths? If that's the case, then it would be fair to say that we should stop worrying about Morrissey's lyrical genius in the Smiths, and you know that's impossible, if you love his words like I do. Johnny was wonderful. I haven't heard any of his new stuff, but what's wrong with having an update every now and then?
When I think of Morrissey, I think of the Smiths, and when I think of the Smiths, I think of the words and music, and when I think of the music, I think of Johnny. It's a natural chain that goes through my head, and I'm sure many Morrissey fans are the same.
I tried to make this very plain so I wouldn't offend anyone, but I'm sure someone may try to tear it apart, since there are many like that.

Here's my take on this:

This is a Morrissey website not a Johnny Marr website. Yeah sure, Marr deserves credit for helping Moz get to where he is now, but what else has he done? Playing lead guitar for some crappy band. Morrissey may be fat, bald, and old but HE STILL GETS RUN. People still like him despite the fact that he hasn't released an album in about three years, his albums haven't sold as well as they should of, and he charges thirty bucks or so for a concert. BUT guess what? People still shell out the caysh to see him. Ya know why? Because he's still great. What about Marr? He's opening for Oasis while Moz is charging other bands 10G's just to open for him! After their breakup, who was more successful?-Morrissey. Who still generates the larger crowd?-Morrissey. Who still gets more credit? thats right-Morrissey! I don't hate Marr, but he has his own website. Let Moz have his. Okay so Moz doesn't have a record label...BUT people still like him, people still listen to his music, and he gets IT more than Marr.
