Morrissey at the Bowlarama
From Alicia:
Well for all you
fans out there Moz did show up at the Bowlarama... He went
right into the bar, good for the 21 and over but bad for the
youngins... But either way the youngins didn't care and
found their way in... Fans were crowding Moz -- he seemed maybe a lil
disturbed but still took time to sign autographs. One of his
friends was trying to stop the fans talking to him but it
didn't work... All I can say now my heart is full.
He did sign my back and wrote my favorite song, Speedway. He
ended up leaving early because one fan -- one fan bugged
him, pushed him, hanging all over him so he left, but the
place rocked with Boz.
From Sueadhead:
...Morrissey,
as I was hoping, praying, and wishing for, was at the Boz
Boorer show tonight, and he looked extremely well!!! He was
smiling a lot and in a very good mood! He was there for
about an hour and 45 minutes or so he sat down and had his
usual, Coronas. He signed a lot of stuff for a lot of people
the whole night and posed for many people's pictures. Which
was very surprising because at times he was being very
crowded. But he was very understanding and was there for a
very long time. Eventually it was too much for him and he
had to leave but I got pictures and autographs as did my
girlfriend. She also took pics of him posing and being his
usually cynical self. Oh and by the way Boz Boorer was
incredible, he is a very amazing guitarist. I recommend
everyone to go see him when they have a chance. Even if you
don't like rockabilly, you never know who you might run into
at one of his shows.

Belle loves a Smiths album
From Shawn:
Isobel
Campbell of Belle and Sebastian lists The Queen Is Dead
under the category of "Things I Like" on her new
"side project" Gentle
Waves web page. Interestingly, early on in B&S
career, the group once covered "Reel Around The
Fountain" in concert. Sadly, no tape exists that I can
track down.

Blumfeld
From Mathias Lösel:
There's
an excellent German band from Hamburg called "Blumfeld",
very big now in the German alternative music scene. They
just released a fantastic video-clip with old German cult
actor Helmut Berger (famous through his work with Luchino
Visconti). They seem to be Smiths-fans, not only as their
musical parallels are concerned. On their album L'etat et
moi they used that famous line "If it's not love
then it's the bomb" for their brilliant song "Verstärker"
and translated it into German ("Wenn es nicht Liebe ist,
wird es die Bombe sein"). On their new album (March
1999), called Old Nobody, Blumfeld's charismatic
singer recites a highly intellectual poem. One of the lines
goes: "So you understand change and you think it's
essential" (of course 'stolen' from "The Teachers
Are Afraid Of The Pupils").
