David Baxter - pictured in "The More You Ignore Me..." video
Thanks to Kanako Ishikawa for the following: I recently found the photo which is shown in the video for "The More You Ignore Me..." in the Terence Stamp autobiography called Coming Attractions... the caption says it's David Baxter. Upon further investigation, David Baxter is longtime friend of Terence Stamp and a fellow actor. Said Terence in the book: "... had I not met David Baxter, I might never have left home. I might even have done my two years in the Army, married the right girl, and moved into the empty front room of my parents' home." Instead, Terence Stamp went on to become one of England's best actors (and one of Morrissey's favorites). As several people have pointed out before, his most recent role was Chancellor Valorum in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Gear Magazine falls for sex survey hoax
From Linger: I was reading my July/August issue of Gear Magazine and noticed this little tidbit: "Fans of 1980s British band The Smiths have sex one-tenth as often as other teens. 'It's not that they don't want to,' says Professor Marvin Mitchelson, who led a University of Michigan study. 'It's more a case of their persistent melancholy, which makes them unattractive to their peers." I bet there are a few people thinking... "hmmm.. this explains a lot.", just kidding ;) Here's the original post / article (Dec. 29, 98) which originally appeared on D.A.M.N.-- near the end of the comments the writer who made up the story explains the hoax.

PBS freaks "Oscillate Wildly"
From Javi:
I live in
LA and my dad is a PBS freak. He was watching a program and
as soon it was over they announced what was going to be on
for the next 3 hours. To my surprise the background music
was the Smiths' "Oscillate Wildly."
Have-a-go- on that I know I did.

Interview sound bite on Zone 105 FM (Minneapolis)
Not sure which interview it
is. From Steve Murphy:
Zone
105 FM in Minneapolis has been playing a brief sound
bite of Morrissey explaining the Smiths break up. In it,
Morrissey says that Johnny Marr really wanted the break up
and that he forced the others to choose between him and
Morrissey. At the time, Morrissey said that people felt that
Johnny Marr was the stronger choice to go with than
"dear, old Moz" as he described himself. I checked
the Zone 105 web page but they don't appear to have a link
to this interview. I also don't think that this was a new
interview that they did, but instead a taped thing that is
distributed to other radio stations. Nonetheless, it was
still good to hear Morrissey on the radio.

Unloveable Boxers fanclub expands
From Tommy Gunnarsson:
The Swedish
Morrissey & The Smiths fanclub, Unloveable Boxers, has
up til now only accepted Swedish members. But to make the
fans in our neighbour countries happy, we will now accept
them as members. And when we say neighbour countries, we
mean Denmark, Norway and Finland. Although Germany could be
regarded as a neighbour, we don't accept the fans there to
become members. Yet. But who knows what the future holds?
To become a member, please visit our website at http://home.swipnet.se/~w-87238,
or http://come.to/boxers.
More information can be received from [email protected].
Joining the fanclub is free.
