Who's Spike Smith?
I hear he has a
physical resemblance to Mike Joyce (!?)... From Ian:
Spike
Smith is a young-ish drummer who played in several bands,
including one of the many re-incarnations of The Damned.

NME article quotes Morrissey-solo comments
From John:
In the printed
edition of this weeks NME they add slightly more to the
story on the website, this time they're slightly more
cautious and less sensationalist, the headline is "Moz
to tour" with subheadline, "Plus Morrissey and
Marr possibly to share bill at US festival. Reunion rumours
persist" - which they are more than happy to fuel! It
says "Speculating on a Morrissey/Marr reunion one fan
on an unofficial Morrissey website reasoned: "How can
they NOT? I mean, it would just be too foolish for them both
to be on the same night, and not play together, for even one
song. Look at all the examples, Sex Pistols, Eagles,
Fleetwood Mac, and, yes, the surviving Beatles. I truly feel
it will happen eventually".
Glad they consider here their number one source for Moz
info.!
The quote seems to
be some odd combination of the two comments by Lifeguard
Commenting (#4) and Jose
Maldonado (#16)
regarding "The Smiths will reunite..." poll posted
on Aug. 6.

More Moz & Marr rumors at Q Online
Nothing really new... I
thought we killed this thing 3 weeks ago. Link to item at Q
Online from Charles
Byron:
Moz
& Marr rumours cite reunion & tour
[Aug 26 1999
4:17PM]
Rumours abound that Morrissey and Johnny Marr
may perform together for the first time since 1987 at the Coachella
Festival in California on October 9. Morrissey is
headlining at the event and Marr is believed to be planning
an appearance with Beck, with whom he has been
working. Marr has written two guitar parts for Beck’s next
album which has fuelled predictions of a performance with
the tousel-haired singer at Coachella.
Both are also planning new solo projects – Marr’s The
Healers, slated for a February 2000 release, plus a
follow up to 1997’s Maladjusted for Morrissey,
title and release date to be announced.
Morrissey is also in the process of putting to a DVD
retrospective for US release to be called ¡Oye Esteban!,
according to an unofficial Morrissey website. The DVD will
contain a selection of vintage videos never before shown to
the public. Among those that have been unearthed are Seasick,
Yet Still Docked.
Yet another unconfirmed rumour puts Morrissey on tour in the
UK later this year, but no British dates have been
announced. There is however a schedule for an November /
December Irish tour, which venues say has been provisionally
booked and is being advertised, but which has not been given
final confirmation. Those dates are as follows:
Wednesday November 24 Belfast Ulster Hall
Thursday November 25 Derry Rialto
Saturday November 27 Cork Opera House
Sunday November 28 Limerick University
Wednesday December 1 Dublin National Concert Hall
Thursday December 2 Dublin National Concert Hall

BBC tribute to John Peel (Sun. Aug. 29, BBC2)
From John:
Also mentioned in
the NME is the John Peel night which they pick as TV
highlight of the week - "There's two hefty shows of
Peel-championed bands featuring a fantastic line-up of Pink
Floyd, Bowie, Joy Division, The Smiths, New Order, PJ Harvey
and Blur" It's on BBC2 on Sunday from 6.20 pm.
From Matt:
...in today's
(Aug. 17) Electronic Telegraph (online version of the UK
Daily Telegraph newspaper):
BBC tribute as John Peel
reaches 60
THE BBC is to mark
the 60th birthday of the disc jockey John Peel with two
nights devoted to his work. BBC 2 will broadcast an evening
of programmes on Aug 29. Radio 1, on which he has worked for
22 years, pays its tribute two days later.
Peel, once
described by Tony Blair as "truly a radio legend",
is credited with launching the careers of such bands as The
Clash, The Smiths and Pulp. He was awarded an OBE last year
for his services to broadcasting.
