In a report about the music industry at the bulletin of the SSP (Scottish Socialist Party), thereīs some words of Stuart from B&S, which are really interesting indeed:

"My favourite band is The Smiths. They made the most fantastic music and they seemed to do it from such a righteous background. But, I'm kind of sure that if they signed to a major label, they'd probably take as much money as they could and be an entertainer and be manipulated. As long as the music is produced, I think that's the main thing. I think that things are happening all over Scotland. These initiatives that happen, the underground, just keep at it, you know what you're doing is good. The major guys, the major labels, are in trouble. They know they haven't got a scoobie and they're panicking. You know what's going on so just keep doing it, they'll come to you and you'll have the upper hand.

It's most curious that Stuart is speaking of The Smiths in the present tense. Perhaps the rumors regarding Scotland's up-to-the-minute media coverage are completely unfounded...

I knew they were an influence but I thought Felt was his fave band. They gotta ditch that talentless bitch Isobel and get in some more guitar if they wanna be the new Smiths.. but that isn't really the point lol. I like the fact that their fanbase isn't tainted by the laddish sector, like it was with the Smiths, and is nice n twee. And what's wrong with speaking with The Smiths in the present tense? I'm sure we all do it, cos we all still play them every day, his solo work will never be as strong.

The true sign of any brilliant musician is his reverance towards his influences....Belle and Sebastian know where they stand, a real class act!

Definitely, Belle & Sebastian is the best band on earth!!! Plus,"The Green Fields of Foreverland" by The Gentle Waves is an amazing album, one that every single B&S fan should listen to.
I don't understand why a lot of people seems to hate Isobel, she's SO nice... "A Charming Girl".

Isobel talentless???
I do doubt it... She sings, writes lyrics and plays cello, guitar, piano, vibraphone, glockenspiel, and who knows what else!

yay! I am so glad that Stuart loves the Smiths, although loving Morrissey solo would have been a much better compliment. Oh, and I think B and S are nothing like the Smiths!!

Well, "If You're Feeling Sinister" has to be the best album of the nineties, and definitely features in my all time top 10 list. Excellent!

I thought "If You're Feeling Sinister" was the best album of the '90's as well, until I heard "Tigermilk."
