Does Moz have to "swallow" every guy he meets? I think moz may be addicted to men!

What is that song all about? I don't understand what it means to draw a swallow on someones neck. Did he actually pull out some markers and draw a bird on someones neck? Ha ha, just kidding. And what does he mean when he says that "Everyone knew". Is that a sex song? Please clarify for the rest of us or am I the only one that doesn't get it?

It refers to a tattoo.I remember an interview (at a radio station, I think)where Moz said he felt "it was a bold statement." Obviously paraphrasing... Anway, it certainly sounds like it could have homosexual connotations as he picked a swallow as the bird. As some of you may know, it is also a verb :0 One of my favorite songs from my favorite Moz CD (even if it is a compilation.) Peace. Shog

I think that the swallow may also refer to someone who got a "hicky", (however you spell that) on thier neck from a lover. But then again, I could be wrong??????

what are you talking about? "swallow" is one of my favorite songs, double-entendres and all...and wasn't it his old pal jake who was into tattoos? i think, as others have speculated, this casts a certin light on the song. but no matter really, it's still a cute song.

As someone who has been a rockabilly for 15 years plus . Let me put you all out of your'e misery. A swallow tatooed on the neck, hands or chest is a standard rockabilly and teddybody tatoo to have. It's a badge of honour and marks the wearer out as a dedicated rockabilly/rock and roll fan. Look at gary Day's neck. Moz really does suffer from fan's overanalysis. I expect he liked the image and just stuck it in a song. As to whether its 'homosexual' in content, I don't know. I would like to think not.

All that matters is what songs such as Swallow mean to YOU. As far as I am concerned, it is obviously a love song, the "swallow on the neck" being a love token in the same way as others might exchange a ring. It is a love song between two men. And anyone who thinks this song or other Morrissey songs have nothing to do with homosexuality should really be listening to Guns N Roses instead.

Well, what I heard is that a bird (swallow, dove, whatever) tattoo on the neck is common in people that have been in Jail. So "soon everyone knew" I thought referred to the idea that everyone knew the protaganist had been in jail. Which only adds to the gayness factor, I guess. Moz wants a rockabilly boy. And so do I.

Of course Morrissey writes songs that are homoerotic but that doesn't mean every song he writes is sexual. I remember Morrissey saying the song was about a tatoo.

Twas very good. I was at the front and almost touched him, I half died! I like Swallow, and of course it has a gay angle - it's another song about Jake! Great show but not the perfect set-list of course - Lost was dropped, Roy's Keen was played.. and whilst all the songs were good to an extent in their own right(bar Roy's Keen of course lol) they weren't really my faves.Nitpicking aside, it was godlike being so close and it really makes the concert so much better. I complained earlier about The Forum but it'd prolly be as good as Barrowlands at the front. The downside was you couldn't get up to hug him - only 1 person got through the back past security. They also sold nice merchandise - pillow cases saying Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me and condoms saying Let The Right One Slip In!

P.s. The protagonist was "smashed" (i.e. drunk out of his mind) and most likely did something regretable...figure it out.
