I like call'n him moz or mozzer because it's more intimate, I once read only his friends call him Moz.......

Is Moz just a variation on Boz's name? Should we start calling Alain Aloz? And I'm Buoz? I've never referred to him as Moz. Morrissey is much more appealing to say.

I always call him Morrissey and so does my friend. Typing about him or talking about him affectionately although we usually say something along the lines of Moz or the Mozzer. I guess it all depends what kind of mood I am in.

I'd don't belive Moz and Boz are exceptions to the rule...whatever that rule might be.

I've seen British writers and journalists append an "-oz" onto the tail of an otherwise decent name several times, often in non-Morrissey related contexts. In fact, I seem to shadowly recall some contemporary British writer refering to Byron as "Boz" (in a "my buddy Willy Shakes" sort of manner).

Perhaps one of you in the UK might explain this peculiar oz-ing about...?

I have no idea where 'Moz' originated from, so I dont know if it's good or bad. I prefer calling him Morrissey because that is his name but when im writing it i usually write moz because its shorter...

If I remember correctly Moz originated in an NME or MM article, and just sort of caught on. I do recall Morrissey being asked about it in an interview and mentioning he quite likes it. (ex. inside of TMYIMTCIG single).

I call him Moz on the net because it's faster to write, but I call him Morrissey most of the time. It's just more respectful...but when I'm talking to my friends I just call him "He" and they know who I'm talking about...It just depends on the situation.

After listening to his most recent solo effort I frequently referred to him as a 'Woz'. I know, however, judging from his current tour, he is no longer a 'Woz', he is once again an 'Is' - short for MorrISsey of course. Actually I quite liked his last album , so I don't know why I said that.

why are you concerned about having to type the word 'morrissey' when you already have to use twice as many key strokes as the rest of us because of your frankly irritating mis-use of the shift-key?

Sugar butt? Ha! It does have a kind of interesting (if demented) ring to it. It may be as easy to chant at a concert as "Morrissey, Morrissey", etc...

I don't have too much time on my hands - I just waste the precious little amount I do have on silly nonsense such as what name to call a man I will never meet.

I prefer MORRISSEY because that's the way I read it for the first time, back in 1986,in the innersleeve of THE QUEEN IS DEAD. However, I think MOZ is cute. The only thing that CAN'T happen is to have people think you are referring to Jim MORRISSON from The Doors. Down here in Brazil , where THE DOORS are much more widely known, that has happened a few times.

Moz originated in the music press in the UK during the Eighties. It is a shortened version of Mozzer which was the nickname coined by Johny Marr. Why the British have an obsession with shortening people's names into similar sounding words is anyone's guess.

James <[email protected]>
UK - Fri, Nov 19, 1999 at 10:16:32 (PST) | #69

To sum it up with respect to the masses, the title "Moz," was merely a convenient quip furnished by none other than our hero's
everlasting arch rival- the press. That is all.

Besides, the melody of that glorious three-syllable name, "Mor*ris*sey..." is the only chant I have ever proved witness to while awaiting his arrival to center stage.

This is a really pointless poll...with pointless rambling-on responses. However, it's no where near as hostile as the vegetarian poll.

It doesn't matter what we refer to Morrissey as, he's to be listened to.

Why not a poll about who's seen him in concert as a solo artist?

You might remember me from Coachella. I was the
girl with "STEVEN PATRICK MORRISSEY" written on my
back with permanent marker. "Steven" is his name,
whereas "Morrissey" is so icon-related. So why is he referred to as an icon when he is given us music in it's most human form, full off sorrow, reality,
and pain. Therefore, "Steven" is appropriate really.
