From SerCas2:

Picked up the December issue of "Gear" magazine, with Kristen Dunst on the cover. Available at all Tower Records in the USA. They have the "Poll of the Century: The Top 100 Albums Ever Made." The Smiths The Queen Is Dead shows up as number 62. Other notable appearances: U2's The Joshua Tree is 26, Radiohead's OK Computer is 30.

Who thinks up these silly polls? And how many people are being polled---100? What's the motivation for these polls and what does anyone have to gain by them? OOoooooohhhh, the Queen is Dead was #62, I'm going to celebrate with champagne and take the week off from work.

Louder than bombs should represent the smiths at such a poll and not the queen is dead

OK Computer is one thing, but the Joshua Tree?! oh dear, I think these polls are more to do with albums that defined an era, whether they were experimental and influential and their record sales.. Q is dead is best musically, it may not have sold as much as U2 but it defined the 80s just as much or more.

Maybe cos it's an American poll? it certainly was more defining in the UK, yet Spin mag had the wisdom to put it as THE best album of all time in one poll.. hmm

Disclaimer: I like morrissey. Now, queen is dead definitely shouldn't be number one as spin had, and number 62 seems closer to reality. The smiths are great but when looking at every album ever made by anyone, there's too many to put ahead of them. But everyone here is right, the polls are absurd, radiohead's newest as number 30?!! come on.

Sorry, but "OK Computer" must be in at least the top 10. But, in my book, "Queen Is Dead" does come in first. I bought it the day it came out and changed my outlook more than anything I ever purchased (followed closely by "London Calling")
