From JPxx.
The Oasis rhythm guitar man, Bonehead, has left the band... a large article in The Sun newspaper the day after the story broke (11/8/99) states that Noel Gallagher is chasing Johnny Marr to be the replacement...

And from elsberry.

According to the Daily Star (British Newspaper) J.Marr is gonna replace "Bonehead" who just left Oasis. Hahaha.

Now if we can just get Moz to replace
the other Gallagher we will be on to something
really special!!!!

Hehehe - Tom, that was a GOOD one!
Anyway, why would Johnny have any interest in joining Oasis, if he's hard at work on his OWN band?

Oasis SUCKS,so I really hope this aint happening!!
The best thing they can do is to finish the Oasis-story by leaving the band all of them!!!Ha Ha Ha!

How can you guys call yourselves "Marr Fans" if you don't even know that Noel and Johnny are very close friends. It's been well documented that Noel and Liam love the Beatles, but did you know that Noel knew he wanted to be a rock star after seeing Johnny Marr and the Smiths on Top of the Pops?

They would be great together!!!

about?? This better be another one of his lies!!
You've lied before Marr why not again? Right guys?? We were just practicing in my garage, it is hot as Hell outside, I was sweating like a pig. I cannot wait for Fall.

Ohh..I really hope not. Oasis is beyond bad. Their lyrics wouldn´t even make great speech for popeye the sailorman. If their lyrics where printed on toilet-paper I would take it as a personal abuse to my bottom.

I think it sounds like a great idea but would really Johnny be interested in playing rhytmguitar....hmm...i'm not so sure about that one. If he's joining oasis he can't be a damn rhytmguitarist, he's gotta be the lead guitar player.

They will both lead. It will be like dueling guitar legends! Maybe Moz will come on stage and sing some background melodies for Liam! Liam's voice is much purer!

Ah, dear Idiot (Warren), at Dork's (Troy's) house: what do you mean, another one of HIS lies? Is Marr lying when he said he joined Oasis? Oh, that's right, HE NEVER SAID IT! And it's like the time he lied about how he was joining Morrissey on stage. Oh wait, he never said that either! Please, spend more time practicing (let me guess, Korn covers?) and less time posting idiotic messages. Thank you,
all of us

NO! NO! NO! Johnny must be the lead guitarist in his own new band. Oasis play a real annoying music. Oasis=Bleah! I am really waiting Johnny's solo album: it will be really great, believe me. He doesn't need Oasis: he needs Morrissey.

I don't believe all you people that say you hate Oasis! They write great songs, play well, look good, and most of all, they remain popular as a unique act! Who else in North America does anything remotely simmilar to Oasis? Korn? Ricky Martin, Limp Bizkit? Dishwala? So you don't like their attitude? I'm sure Robert Smith, Dave Gahan and Morrissey aren't the nicest guys around either! For music's sake folks, lets pick the right bands to hate...ie) Manufactured @#!!! from Florida!

First off, let me say that Mr. Marr is sure making a name of himself. At least he is not rotting away at some pub like Andy Rourke. I will admit, I liked Oasis' first 2 albums (Definetly... & Whats the story). But I am not too sure that Johnny is the right fit to Oasis. Liam's singing demands the attention of the listener. At times Liam's voice is so imposing, that the back up music is sometimes drowned out and almost made obsolete. And frankly, that is not Marr's style. Marr dishes out beautiful riffs and an always present lead guitar. Morrissey & Marr never "stepped on each others toes" musically.

I am not to sure of this, but maybe Marr can restore to Oasis back to Glory...Morning Glory that is.

Well, Oasis is very far from being a good band, but it would be a disaster if he plays with George Michael again nasty things like Faith, that was depressing... I am sure our hero never would do anything like that...
Johnny, what about joining Belle and Sebastian or The Gentle Waves??? Oh God, this would be a dream!!!

In related but old news I just saw this bit of news on Ugo.com. Kind of funny

LA Story: Beck Meets Marr

Dot Music - [email protected] -

8.10.1999 - 4:30:11 PM

Is legendary ‘80s guitarist Johnny Marr teaming up with ‘90s alternative poster boy Beck? The two have apparently been hanging out in Los Angeles lately, discussing a collaboration of some sort. Marr is working on his first solo album, probably not to be titled, I Was Morrissey’s Bitch, while Beck is recording the follow-up to Mutations. Beck’s also been swapping intellectual spit with Beth Orton and retro rapper Kool Keith. Marr has lately been teamed up with fellow ‘80s icon Bernard Sumner(ex-New Order). The two head up the band Electronic.

Hey Corey I'm not in the mood for your crap tonite so can it, pal!! I have had the worst day ever. Am I the only one whose ever been picked on for being a Smiths fan? Cause I have. I just got back from the mall. Two dumb jocks (who everyone hates) followed me and my friend Troy around and made fun of us. They started picking on me for wearing a Smiths t-shirt and called me fag (which I'm not). And then they threw red Hawian Punch on me (ruinning my t-shirt completely). By the way that shirt was brand f*%#ing new!!!

Hi. This is my first time on this message board. I am 13years old and a new Morrissey fan. My older sister has Bona Drag and it is really good. All the songs are really cool. Can anybody tell me what other Morrissey CDs are good? I can only buy one each month. Because my allowance is not that much. Thanks.

according to 'this is london' it's a done deal:

"Marr, 36, has been in negotiation about replacing Bonehead in Oasis with leader and fellow Mancunian, Noel Gallagher, who is a friend as well as a huge fan and an official announcement is expected soon."

Ann Coates,

I know Warren is a little goofy, but come on. How about showing a little compassion for the kid. Do you think Neanderthal jocks picking on less "cool" kids is funny. If so, I'm sure some people in Columbine, CO would like to educate you about how wrong it is to alienate kids who don't win popularity contests in school.
Warren, sorry to hear about your day. Don't worry things will get better as you get older. Besides, you're a Morrissey fan, so cheer up.

Well I don't think any one here should be picking on anyone. We all come here to share thoughts and great stuff about Morrissey, so I think everyone should cool it.

Hey Warren where did you get you Smiths shirt? I was wondering if you ordered it through cdnow. cdnow.com actually has a pretty good selection of Morrissey and Smiths t-shirts. I got 3 moz shirts and 2 smiths shirts from that site. Just thought I'd help ya out.

Marr isn't just a good guitarist, he's a great songwriter. Does he really want to be in a band where he doesn't write the music? does he really want to play Noel's stuff? I like Oasis, but it would seem like ... coming down in the world for Marr to join them. Kind of humiliating for an old pro like Johnny to latch onto a bunch of upstarts like Oasis (who are good but not as good as the Smiths!!!). But if Johnny really gets along with those people, well good luck!

a well documented friendship between the gallaghers and johnny marr doesn't take away the fact that Oasis SUCKS...true, it is documented that after seeing the smiths on top of the pops, noel wanted to be johnny....it's also been said that johnny gave noel onf of the guitars he used for the first smiths U.S. tour...suffice it to say, not even the guitar of johnny could help them...

may the day never come that the name johnny marr becomes associated with both the greatest name in british pop (THE SMITHS, of course) and the worst name in british pop (Oasis)...

DUDE...who on earth thinks Oasis sucks, come on, they aint The Smiths but their music rocks. It makes me want to dance and get jiggy with it. I personally love the sound of "Supersonic" and "Don't look back on anger". Plus i believe, if not mistaken, Johnny is the one who found and open the door for Oasis, who happen to reside in lovely Manchester. Please get off the Oasis sucks wagon unless you can give me names of other brit bands that rock. And please don't say Blur or Suede.

Thanks and Oasis Rocks..and yes Johnny can write and play lovely songs. Can't wait if he writes stuff for Oasis.

cdnow.com is reporting... a source close to Marr has DENIED the report in London's Evening Standard that Johnny will have any involvement with Oasis.
Marr is writing his solo album (which might be under the name The Healers) and is set to begin recording in Los Angeles later this year with Beck
engineer Mickey P. if he gets a U.S. record deal, the album could hit stores by spring with north american concerts possible sometime next year (they'd be his first on u.s. soil since Electronic in '91) a backing band for the album and any live dates has not been decided upon yet.

I really hope that this happens. I have been a Smiths fan as well as a Johnny Marr fan for countless years. I am now a big Oasis fan too. If Noel can get such an excellent guitarist alongside himself, Oasis could really break through they way they do everytime a new single comes out. With the mind that Johnny Marr has and the imagination Noel has, who knows... maybe Liam might just quit, he has always been the problem. If you feel any offense to my comment, please feel free to email me.

Ah dear Warren, now you must turn on the innocent? Please, calling a 13 year old lazy because he doesn't work? Give me a break! Perhaps he'd rather enjoy the innocence one can still achieve at that age.

And Dale: rather than criticize, I will offer you some advice. Vauxhall & I and Your Arsenal are generally considered the best of Morrissey's solo work, I'd get those first. However, you should also intend to get every album the Smiths put out as well.

If Johnny joins I'm sure it won't be the only thing he'll work on. He seems to love side projects. As for good bands,BLUR is definitely my favorite since the smiths broke up. Granted I liked their britpop stuff better, but they are still a great band.

I'll admit it - after Morrissey/Smiths, Oasis are my favourite band. I thought August 9 would go down as my 2nd Unhappy Birthday (the first being when Wayne Gretzky was traded from the Oilers), when I read on Dotmusic that Bonehead was leaving Oasis. When I started thinking about possible replacements, Johnny Marr was the first in mind, however unlikely that would have been. I mean, if it happens, this would be incredible. For one, we could only assume that Johnny would take on a bigger role than Bonehead, assuming lead guitars and co-writing would not be out of the question. Secondly, Noel has always maintained that Oasis would change styles for the 4th studio album (and this was before the "failure" of Be Here Now). With a desire to add more electronic elements to the music while remaining a rock band, who better to have along than Marr, who has shown himself more than capable at doing just that in Electronic. Until the official announcement is made, I'll be continously crossing my fingers and praying to the rock gods...

Glad to see your post Dale. I am only 15 so I'm not really much older than you. If you like Bona Drag alot you would probably enjoy Vauxhall & I(which was already mentioned) and maybe a compilation like World Of Morrissey.

Warren, how come you don't want to meet? I think it would be pretty cool for a couple of Smith's fans to get together and enjoy some great music. We could head over to the Masquerade tonight and hopefully hear some Smith's tunes. I think it would be grand. Especially if you wear your t-shirt. Or, I could pop by your place to listen to some CD's after we watch Friends.

Corey & Gyro, thanks for the advice on which Morrissey CDs are good. I am also glad to hear that I am not the only teenager who likes 80's music. All my friends say it sucks and is old. They like N'Synch and Backstreet Boys. But music like that stinks and has lyrics that are awful. Thats why I like Morrissey.
Warren, for your information I can't get a job mowing lawns because I am allergic to grass. It makes me sneeze non stop and my eyes get all watery and stuff. not to rock your boat or anything, but here are some brit bands (and solo acts) that rock:gene, radiohead, pulp, elastica, (and yes,) suede, the creatures, portishead (okay, so they're trip-hop..they're still british), billy bragg, elvis costello

I know its some unwritten rule in "Brit-pop" to hate Oasis. But love them or hate them, truth of the matter is that they have managed to put out 3 albums of quality product. Polished and well executed. All this of Marr being a genius is quite absurd. Where has this brilliance gotten him post Smiths? The New Pet Shop Boys? Backing up George Michael? Fact is some people need another to make themselves shine, and for Marr Noel might be the one. Morrissey realized this and has maintained his level of excellence since the break up by surrounding himself with quality musicians and producers. Few can be an island unto himself.
