Sounds exciting. I don't know if its worth the risk to fly out to LA, get a place to stay and rent a car just to have Moz back out because he is in the middle of a book. Would any of the lovely ladies (with a car) in the area like a clean courteous houseguest?

Why wouldn't he play? He can't headline all of his shows....

Has Morrissey ever played a festival??? Doesn't sound like his style!!! After the Bowie stuff, I doubt he wants to share the stage with anyone!!!!!
He'll probably cancel or say he never knew about it (after everyone buys tickets of course) - like at Carnegie Hall in NY back in the Vauxhall Days.

according to KROQ they have been working on this show for over a year. im sure Moz has known about it and has every intention to play.

seeing as how he likes LA so much i think he will do it. and God knows KROQ wouldnt put him on the bill unless they thought he would do it. He burned KROQ back in 94 over the "Vauxhall" show at the olymipic, and KROQ was pretty pissed about that. so they must have a solid belief he will show.

and what a great venue....out in the desert in a sea of people.....sounds fun. cant wait!

That would be indeed very interesting mr. very suspicious. i could just picture it now. moz on stage and just finish singing suedehead, when he adresses his devoted fans by saying, "now here today to play a song with me, is a very charming man", then you see marr come out with with guitar in hand and play "how soon is now" and a couple of others. they finish and moz gives marr a huge hug. wow...can i dream. i can't wait and see you fans there. oh yeah... i be the guy with a sports coat on.

I thought I was dreaming when I heard kevin and bean mention Morrissey (though I have a feeling they don't particularly care for him). I just found it odd that they'd play a snippet of How Soon is Now considering he doesn't really play many Smiths songs in his concerts. Either way... see you all lazy sunbathers in the desert. Woohoo.

The only thing that leaves me a bit suspicious is that Spiritualized is included in the list. According to Q, Jason Pierce (aka J Spaceman, the band's dictator) recently fired all the other band members (save a horn player(why not sack him too?)) and that the band's future is very, very uncertain. The inclusion of Spiritualized on the list of artists set to perform makes me question the list's accuracy.

The thing with KROQ is that they do have their moments of greatness. Like when Richard Blade does the 80' flashback lunch. There, of course, are The Smiths. The rest is, well, you know...

Okay, I must say that the line up does appear a bit mismatched, and I probably won't be the only one there just to see M. Is this show going to be in some dust-filled desert pigpen filled with sweaty idiots just dying to mosh to Rage? Help us. By the way, why DOES Moz like LA?? Kroq has always stayed true to Morrissey in comparison with any other radio station I have been familiar with. Not as true as one would like, perhaps, but nevertheless...

AAARRRGGGGHH! Why on earth do these things never happen wihtin a day*s flight distance from me, hm? Come on, MOrrissey, Europe is not THAT bad after all.... Ah, I refuse to believe it. But then again a couple of years ago I was about to buy a ticket for Roskilde Festial only because among 100 other bands he was announced to appear. In the end- surprise here- he didn*t. So very well, I can hang myself AFTER Moz and Marr played Vicar in a tutu together, not before.

Heard about it yesterday. Believe it? that's tough. Doesn't seem like it's Morrissey's cup of tea. He stated before 'I do not like to try an win over a hostile crowd. I play for people who came to see me only' Doubt that will be the case in Coachella Valley. Hope I am wrong, but I am pretty sure Morrissey will be in Ireland come October.

I too don't expect this to happen. If it does happen, you can bet the crowd will be more than hostile, especially with RATM headlining the bill.

There will be multiple stages at this event (at least 2) im sure the people who dont want to see Morrissey will be far enough away not to cause trouble.

Be not affraid of the jock or tough guy macho BS. Be there for one reason only and that is to enjoy something with a few thousand of your closests. I for one am not scared to beat the crap out of surfer joe and his Bro jock football buddy from Huntington Beach. Come to think of it, they will MOST LIKELY put Morrissey and RATM on different days. Morrissey will probably play the same night Beck plays.

KROQ knows their audience. And they ESPECIALLY know Morrissey. They will most likely taylor each night to the fan base.

This line up is amazing. Gus Gus & Pavement alone are worth the price of admission. Even though Moz has let us L.A. fans down at times (cancelling shows and stuff), I seriously doubt that he'll be a no-show at this fest. Why? Because he's got more fans here then anywhere else, and canceling would be the worst career move ever. I can't wait to see all of you lovelies there. AT THE END OF HIS SET HE'LL SAY SOMETHING WITTY AND OUT WILL COME AN AGED JOHNNY MARR AND THEY WILL PLAY NOT ONE , NOT TWO, BUT THREE SMITHS SONGS, AND THE SMITHS FANS IN THE AUDIENCE WILL GO INSANE AND THEY'LL SHOW KROQ A THING OR TWO ABOUT A THING OR TWO.

REBEL <[email protected]>
L.A. - Thu, Jul 29, 1999 at 19:15:54 (PDT) | #56

Most likely, Morrissey will be playing a lot of old songs because he doesn't have a new album out and he will be playing for a potentially hostile audience. He did play Smiths songs in his last tour so he should do some this time as well. I seriously doubt that Johnny Marr will join him on stage, however. If that reunion was meant to be it would have happened already. A Smiths reunion could sell out the Rose Bowl by itself and make them all even richer then they are right now so if there was any civility between the two, then you think it would have happened already. The tickets for a show this big are going to be expensive, and it's going to be a huge venue but I think it still may be worth it.

I can't be much better than the last Moz show in New York. My friend told me that when Moz and the boys started playing "Paint a Vulgar Picture" someone was like "I think this might be a Smith's song" - Oh yeah big fans at these shows!!!! But they were dancing and singing to "Boy Racer" - What a joke. Maybe Beck & Chemical Brothers fans will be better than some Moz fans huh?
