Why did he choose to honour skinheads by naming a song after them. Remember suedehead? And what was national front disco really about then? How can we forget the line 'People who are uglier than you and me just take what they want and leave'?

Morrissey doesn't honour skin heads. Remember the scene from the "Alma Matters" video where Morrissey throws the milk on that skinhead girl?

When Moz was growing up in England; traditional, oi!, and even NF skins were commonplace. I'm surprised that he hadn't written more songs about the movement.

"People who are uglier than you and me just take what they want and leave."
Gee, I dunno.. maybe... irony? Morrissey's songs generally have a prevalent theme of self-loathing and self-consciousness. I don't particularly think this line is serious for a moment.

what's so 'whites only' about blur and suede? both those bands seem disillusioned with the 'great' britain hangover. it seems to me that while morrissey is in tune with the romantic nostalgia of britain's past, he just doesn't feel the need to romanticise non-white experiences of english culture - which makes him less racist than most.

I do remember reading an article where old MOZ made a comment about skinheads, something about having respect for them. Unfortunately I cant remember where but Im sure someone else has seen this
