I fear that "Clash of the Egos" will ultimately interfere with the remote possibility of a Smith's reunion. As much as I would like to see Moz's next album be a smash, one more (and I know this is going to upset someone) soso album might be the motivation he needs to reconcile with Johnny?

Please once and for all, quit talking about this reunion stuff. What can it be good for. Remember those embarrassing reunions of the Pistols, Madness, or even The Who?! Remember how sad this turned out to be, a 40 year-old Rotten with yellow hair, a fat Suggs skanking, a 60 year-old Pete pretending to smash his guitar?! I don't want reunions that leave a bad taste in the mouth, I don't want no Smiths revival as well as no Jam or Joy Division reunion. It's best to always carry them in your heart for what they were and for what they still mean to you. Remember, this memory and this wonderful music is always ours, and it shall not be taken away for commercial reasons and MTV audiences.

i too must agree with mat and in not in favor of a smiths reunion if its not going to be up to my expectations, which i know will not. i love moz solo stuff and should concentrate on that. but i am in favor of moz and johnny forming a whole new band. drop the two greedy ones out. if they could (moz and johnny form a new band): any suggestions for replacements on drums and bass. how bout a new name. i would call them. . . the suedeheads

what seems to be some dark corner - Fri, Jul 23, 1999 at 01:26:24 (PDT)
do you sincerely believe that a smiths reunion, led by morrissey, would be "commercialized"?
the smiths years as a band were too short. they are not that old, know. bands like the cure and depeche mode are older and still here. the problem is, that the meaning of a reunion for morrissey would be admitting a failure, and more so for marr. and lets not forget "sorrow will come".and who`s sad joke was it about joy division`s possible reunion? lets have a beatles reunion! doors reunion! nirvana reunion!
the reunion appeals to me dearly because they are all still alive..sorrow will come in the end those talks of reunion we have won`t be possible anymore...

And you would be an idiot for that Moz Cowboy....
I agree the thought of it is rediculous. Morrissey has said if he met his band now at the same time he met the smiths he would go with his band now....that answers it. But Johnny has said that there would be no reunion...the only ones who would want a reunion are the ones stealing his money.

I think This Guy's Story is a 100% Lie. Andy is recording with Aziz now & has his own thing going. After all of these years he and Mike Joyce finally have somehting positive happening!!! Why in the world would he be depressed now???? And Morrissey is on crack if he thinks Alain, Boz & the boys are better than The Smiths. Don't get me wrong Morrissey being Solo has had his great points - but The Smiths are way better. Everything after "Your Arsenal" Sux except maybe a few songs - "I Can Have Both", "Satan Rejected..." etc

Does anyone think Moz would admit that the band
members of the Smiths are better than what he has now? I seriously doubt it? I don't believe that a Smiths reunion will ever come to fruition but I must admit that if they did I would be first in line.........

Well, dear Noam. Sadly, dead band members don't keep other band members from reuniting. And, er, we've actually HAD reunions of the Beatles ("Free As A Bird") and The Doors ("American Prayer"). And The Who ("Quadrophenia 1997") and The Stranglers ("Albert Hall 1997"). Heard of that? If not, I can tell you that the world would have done without. That's why I don't need a Smiths reunion.

Dear Girl Racer:
You're not the only one, I do think that "Southpaw" is really a good record... and Ken -from Long Island- "Vauxhall and I" is without any doubt the best record ever made by the man, and I'm not afraid to say that with Marr & the others it couldn't have been possible... Is even greater that any record released with The Smiths (with the only exception of "The Queen Is Dead").
What sucks are comments like yours about how great The Smiths were and how lost is Moz without them. You should try any record made by Electronic to know what really "sux"...

Electronic Sucks?? Please there first album was great!! The second had its moments. I have not heard the 3rd (yet)but I will, oh I will. Moz and Marr admit themselves that the best work they ever accomplised was with each other. They are
soul mates and are lost without each other!!! The
Smiths will be together again, this my friends I promise you!!!

it's impossible for joy division to ever reunite...ian curtis died in 1980...the new live album (joy division:2-28-80) is actually a factory records release of the same stuff available on the bootleg 'shadowplay'...
anyway, as much as i wish i could have gone to a smiths concert when they were still around (i was nine when they disbanded), i have doubts that a reunion would not only be unfeasible, but perhaps not a great idea...it just wouldn't be the same.

i've loved both southpaw and maladjusted, and i think everyone should buy the three singles coming from maladjusted; lost is probably one of his best, and i can have both is a really sweet song. For me, boorer and whyte are better than street. Only johnny could surface them working with the mozzer.

What a joke, some crazy ausie meets "Andy" at some crazy pub, in a town he can't recall, what a lie. Andy wishes he had more money, like all of us. He's in that one band isn't he, so he's probably keeping him self pretty occupied, I don't think he sits around cryng over the smiths break up.
How can some one talk @#!!! about Morrissey's
New band, or any of his new material??? I think it's great.
The Smiths aren't anything like the beatles, or the Doors, or the who, I don't think they're like the pistols at all, I don't think theyre part of all that crazy "Rock & Roll" circus, I think the smiths could get back together
and it wouldnt be as bad as a sex pistol's reunion. a Morrissey and Marr project doesnt sound to bad either, anything that's smiths related is alright.

I agree Julie. The Smiths wouldn't be the smiths even if they did reunite now. Morrissey in his 20's was the smiths...he wouldn't be the same now. More solo stuff please....now if Johnny worked with Morrissey that would be great, but keep the band and keep Rourke and Joyce out of the picture.

This is in response to Charles Byron . I meant no offense to my fellow Moz/Smiths fans. I am not a Smiths only fan at all - I love Moz too (Just Pre-Vauxhall please!!!!!! But to say that Vauxhall is Morrissey's best album ever????? C'mon get serious. It is a fact that Viva Hate is his best effort. The sad proof that the material from Moz, Boz & Alain (Post "Your Arsenal") has degenerated to pure crap (Vauxhall, Southpaw, & Malajusted - excluding some bril tracks) is that right now they are found without a record deal altogether. Even "not so popular" tracks like "The Ordinary Boys" or "Dial-A-cliche" or "Bengali in Platforms" blow away any tracks on any record past "Your Arsenal" If you think otherwise than probably you weren't around when those records were released or you're on Crack. - no offense, it's just that I feel this is a universal truth.

Long Island - Sun, Jul 25, 1999 at 19:53:46 (PDT) | #31
i can't agree with Ken's universal truth. Vauxhall is much more brilliant, elegant and meanful than viva hate, which has some forgettable songs, as moz himself recognized it.
what about of songs like why don't you find it for yourself?, hated for loving, used to be a sweet boy, now my heart is full..they are all a great accomplishment, with clever lyrics and finally a moz's recognaizble sound, not the sad post-smith sound on viva hate and bona drag.
southpaw was a pretty hard rock album, but with some filler, for example on southpaw, which i think is one of morrissey greatest songs. and maladjusted has also some real nice highlights.
i don't know, i am only 21, and i can't remember the smiths, but i think mos of moz fans are just nostalgic, and they simply can't hear his new stuff, more "heavy", more adult, more 90's than the pop-smiths years.
this is my universal truth.

hi all
moz is quite capable of producing some pretty orgasmic music, even in his (hush) 40's (tremble, shake, he can't be that old surely, he he).
the smiths are sort of sacred to me, it's like a religion...... morrissey solo music, i love most of it, but there's the difference. i actually find myself saying "no". no i don't like this track, while this track makes me quiver in my boots.
i just couldn't be so differential about new smiths music, i would be expecting too much, and be too disappointed if it wasn't just so.
ah...it's late, i'm going.

I know this isn't mentioned much, but how about a Stephen Street reunion. Let's face it, Viva Hate and the subsequent singles are still the high point of his solo career. What Morrissey needs is a strong songwriting partner that can challenge him and not kiss his ass like Rourke, Alain & Boz.

I agree very much with Juan. To the word my friend. Half of these things are peoples opinions. Don't try to tell us what is the best. But if you want the opinion straight from moz he said in an interview that there were 6 tracks he would easily remove from viva hate. And he thinks vauxhall and I is his best work. And Maladjusted is a beautiful album.
Corey <[email protected]>
- Tue, Jul 27, 1999 at 19:19:58 (PDT) | #36
Well Corey,
It seems that Morrissey's judgement is kinnda bad lately huh? Which is seen by his latest efforts (Vauxhall, SouthPaw, Malajusted). Besides he has to say that or else he would be admitting defeat. As I said earlier, I like some of the tracks on these albums (Spring Heeled Jim, Satan Rejected My Soul - Among Others), however Viva Hate is cleary his best solo effort. Everyone should remember one thing - Morrissey is Great, but he is not DIVINE - he is mortal. I hate it when people act like he can't do anything wrong! Southpaw Sux!!!! Get over it!!!!
Anyway, the biggest regreat I have is missing Moz & the boys at Central Park last go around. I went to his later show in Winter. I didn't care so much about the Maladjusted material - but I missed Paint a Vulgar Picture - one of Moz's best Tracks Ever!!!! (Compliments of Mr. Marr I suppose)
I like Alain & Boz - they have their moments (Jack the Ripper, I Can Have Both, Most arsenal Tracks)
But, the Stephen Street days were so much better.
In Conclusion, however we may disagree about Moz's music, I'd still rather listen to any track on Southpaw than to the crap being played on the radio or MTV!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is me Luke who sent this story in. I had
hesitations about sending this story in as I thought sceptics would think i was lying. I never
said Andy had no future, I said that he missed
the old days, like someone might miss the early
Beatles as opposed to the Beatles circa '69. The
reason i didn't mention the town i was in is because I 'honestly wasn't paying attention, do you know how many little villages and towns with odd names are in england? So to conclude, andy is
happy about the future, he just regrets his past
mistakes. ALRIGHT!!
