I already told Moz I'd open for him, but he doesn't like that idea. Too bad, I already have lots of roadies who will pay their own way to London.

Rest assured, if Moz ever gets wind of this exchange . . . and the very public disclosure of the exchange . . . El Vez will never open for Morrissey, regardless of pay issues. Public displays such as this one irritate Moz and he will inevitably turn on the parties involved.

Wow....what is it like to turn down a concert at a loss because you can get any show you want on a whim?
*salivating*
When do I get to that point? I'm REALLY jealous.

Torr, you have been around the Moz scene long enough to know the following: (1) No rumour regarding Moz' tour intentions has ever been, or come, true (let alone any other rumour). . . we usually know about these events and the details exactly when he intends for us to know (or when he couldn't care less because the plans are already set in stone and on the eve of implementation); (2)Morrissey carefully (and this includes cancellations) orchestrates his public exposure (except the Carnegie Hall incident)and would never accept public disclosures of his intentions regarding anything, let alone his warm-up act, by any member of his band or employee of his record company without exacting retribution; and (3) Moz hates his business being aired out in public (unless he can directly benefit . . . usually financially . . . or otherwise authorizes the airing) and usually denies whole-heartedly any decent rumour his fans ever hear. In short, through the piles of Morrissey interviews (and given one particular incident that I have direct personal knowledge of), it's not hard to figure out that once an idea like the El Vez warm-up becomes public, i.e., appears all over the Net, thus making it a "public display", . . . it, in turn, becomes poison to Moz. If El Vez had any business sense or Morrissey-sense, and any interest in building a relationship with him and his "people", he should have kept his conversation with Alain a private matter within the band. If the concern is money, he should be more circumspect in the future with other artists . . . he may shoot himself in the foot and miss the big payoff.

I really love how nick seriously gives it torr... well done you should always attack someone who was only passing on some useful information. I thought it was pretty smart on torr's part to talk to el vez and ask him about it. but I did enjoy your comment about what morrissey likes and doesn't like. always an amusing thing about morrissey fans.

hey, my comment got deleted. isn't that cute? well, I have a new one. Moz knows that his fanz will fly anywhere in the world to see him, so why would he want to make it more expensive for them? Example, the fanz were given less than 2 weeks notice for the Alberquirky signing, but the people who orchestrated it knew about it in advance and were TOLD not to tell anybody. So does Moz expect me to make last minute travel plans just so I can wait in line and get his autograph? Is he that much above me? Ha. I want to see Moz in London because I was going to plan a trip anyway, but if I don't get a month's notice for the event then who knows? I'm not dropping thousands just to make the concert ya know?

I really wish that people would stop pretending to know morrissey and then get mad at him for what they think he'd be thinking...how horribly pathetic...

that's all well and good but if Moz doesn't use the web like he says then he has no idea that we might know of possible plans before he's issued a press release. Then again, Moz seems to lie a lot, so maybe he's reading THIS :-)

Torr, that's my point, he keeps himself well-informed and the world is very, very small. And, Torr, I certainly wasn't denigrating your efforts in passing or unearthing information . . . although your defense attorneys took it that way (since the medium is the written word, try to read with open, positive hearts and minds and there would be less trashing on this and other sites). I apologize for any slight. Your efforts are appreciated, as well as the efforts of anyone else who posts. I just didn't quite understand why my post was somehow unclear to you. I, however, was clearly knocking El Vez. And I'm certainly not mad at Morrissey (not even close, I'm a huge fan) . . . he has brought too much joy to my life through his talents . . . and he certainly can behave any way he pleases. I wasn't casting judgment . . . just stating facts about, let's call them, his idiosyncrasies. He is no different than any one of us . . . he has a good side and a darker side and lots of that middle of the road stuff. Corey, I know. Is that so hard to believe? Or is it just easier to be a cynic and jaded for the sake of being jaded? I've posted my e-mail address . . . you are more than welcome to make arrangements to meet me in my home state whenever you want . . . I'll buy the beers that night and provide you with the stories, video evidence and I'll have pages and pages of interviews and other sources tabbed with post-its! I do a lot of traveling and would gladly meet on your home turf too.

deep in the heart of your bottom - Thu, Jun 17, 1999 at 20:55:33 (PDT)
All this bickering is silly ;)
Here is the bottom line, No one knows excacly what Mr. Moz is thinking except for HIM! Unless he has told you direct, then don't believe everything you read, hear, see, etc.....
And you shouldn't be so rough on El VEZ either. He is a talent! If you haven't had a chance to see his / their show, you should do so. The Music industry is just that....an industry! Wether you accept it or not, it is almost entirely about money. I wouldn't take my band (hypothetical!) across the "pond" at a substantial expense (loss) just for the "exposure" of playing a gig with Morrissey either! To you it might sound like a dream come true to open for moz, but not to everyone!! You have all been to a moz show and know how insignifigant the opening act really is! You are there for him! You may enjoy the opener, but 2000 or so people "enjoying" EL VEZ at one show will really do little for EV's career! Anyway, stop assuming you can read Morrisseys mind. Just try to enjoy his body (of work ;)) and be happy! He will tour again and if not??? So be it! Enjoy your memories! Hogs & quiches--M
I wouldn't dream of it now

But we enjoy reading Morrissey's mind! It feeds our delusional state. Mine included. Wow. I like to sit there when it's a really boring day at the office and pretend like I'm him. I imagine myself refusing gigs just to hang out and go clothes shopping for the second week in a row! Then, I go back to the house promising myself that I'm going to sit down with those demos once and for all when the phone rings. It's El Vez. I think about my fans and how they would all agree that a Spanish version of my idol would not be good business, so I pretend like I don't know what he's talking about. I'm feeling good today. Much better than yesterday when my self esteem was shot after waiting in line at the gas pump ignoring who I was instead of someone letting me cut on through. As I had driven home slowly refusing to even stop at a Barnes and Nobles, all I would keep thinking to myself is, "oh, I'm not good enough for a REAL supporting act. I'm just a novelty. I'll get one of my bandmates to find something to fit who I am. While they do that, I will find out what is happening on 'Suddenly Susan.'"
Doesn't that sound like a good life? Let us take a person we have no chance of meeting in our lives and play Barbie and Ken with them, OK? You have no sense of humor.
