Smiths mention in Radiohead's Meeting People Is Easy

In the recently released Grant Gee film on Radiohead titled Meeting People Is Easy, Thom Yorke makes the following reference to The Smiths: "the freakiest thing about all of this [referring to Radiohead's incredible success after OK Computer] is the idea that you would be one of those bands to somebody. I remember listening to Strangeways... by The Smiths ... and the thing about it being imprinted on your heart, every note of it ... I just have to remember that every time I meet someone that age who comes to our shows, it's not a big deal for me ... but I have to remember what a big deal it is for them."

This transcription may not be 100% accurate, as it's hard to decipher exactly every word Thom says amidst all the background music, but it's basically something close to what I've typed.

I think I recall Ed O'Brian saying that if it were not for The Smiths, Radiohead wouldn't have even formed, and Radiohead were present when Morrissey received the Lifetime Conribution to music, (The one in which he thanked 'John Maher') Radiohead pretty much swept the board, but not without saying how highly they held up The Smiths, and Morrissey in particular.
Can't be bad, can it?

definitely not a bad thing. radiohead (next to Morrissey, of course) being one of today's sanest, most confrontational, poignant, articulate, inventive and brilliant bands on our beloved planet is clearly continuing the legacy our hero, Morrissey, has emblazoned to break down the artist/audience barrier whilst nurturing the sacredness of the core of a musical group and what it means to the listener-at the most critical time in the life of a group; when fame takes it's toll. thom yorke's brutal sincerity is severely appreciated by many of us. The main reason that this segment freaked me out as I was watching the film (besides the fact that I worship the Smiths and love Radiohead) is because "Strangeways..." was my first Smiths album as well. Nothing can be more imprinted on my own heart than that record, as it started a chain reaction which has lasted over ten years. It was wonderful to discover that Thom Yorke is a kindred spirit...

Stangeways was also my first album and really made feel that i found a group that was unique. I am from a small town in South Carolina and once i heard the smiths i made everyone around me fall in love with them. The Smiths' music had a very powerful message.

I too thought Ed O' Brien was the one who mentioned The Smiths. Does anyone no any further information relating to the Smith's tribute album?? By the way anyone here who likes The Cure I have seeing alot of them lately on 120 minutes on mtv. Oh and The Cure's new album will be out in september and will be called "Christmas".
