John Cale producing Morrissey!! That would be AMAZING! For those who don't know Cale, he was a founding member of The Velvet Underground and played guitar on 'The Velvet Underground And Nico' and 'White Light/White Heat'. If you don't know the band, shame on you! You really can't call yourself an educated alternative music fan if you haven't heard at least a few of their songs. In terms of importance, they were the Led Zeppelin of alternative music (I didn't say *popularity* I said *importance*, as in 'influence').
Anyway, their sound was raw, inventive, adventurous and disturbing and I hope Mr. Cale would bring some of that to mix with the Morrissey sound. Do it!

Hmm sounds very interesting. I'm sure morrissey's work would turn a little from what he's been doing lately. Maybe it will spark back his career, because like it or not he hasn't been very productive lately. I hope this roumor is true.

I like what he did with Souixsie, so I'm sure he'd help Moz quite a bit. First Ronson, now Cale.
But, for now this is a RUMOUR, and until Moz's management confirms it, that's all I will view it as.

Well, for one thing, Cale produced Patti Smith's "Horses", so I can understand what the Mozzer's attraction could be. Also he produced the debut albums of the Stooges and Jonathan Richman's Modern Lovers.
Anyway, it might be cool. I think the Moz needs something....

okay, that would be really cool. it is sad that not many people know cale. oh, by the way he played electric viola on the first and second vu albums not guitar.

He also played bass, narrated "The Gift", and sang on "Lady Godiva's Operation" on White Light/White Heat. Just a little more information, he is a classically trained violinist and studied with such avant-garde giants as La Monte Young and John Cage. I am also shocked that so many of you have not heard one of one of the greatest and most influential bands ever. Everyone needs to go out to the store right now, and pick up a copy of "The Velvet Underground & Nico" and "White Light/White Heat".

most of the people who check out this site are probably under 21, that's why they don't who John Cale or the Velvet Underground are...

Well, I have to say that I'm under 21 and I've been listening to the Velvet Underground my whole life. Being young is NO excuse!
PS. I can't even comprehend how fabulous this album will be with John Cale working on it!

Does one have to be excused for not listening to Velvet Underground? Sounds pretty stupid to me.

Im 16 and Ive listened to Vu for two years.
White Light/White Heat is actually (in my opinion) their least good album.
Still brilliant though.

John Cale produced some astounding albums with Nico, of which Morrissey is a fan.
The sound and tone of these records would to me be perfect to accompany Morrissey's voice and lyrics.
The fact that this proposed collaberation could alienate half(more ?) of his fans should encourage him.
It's time to be obscure, fickle and obtrusive,
look at Scott Walker's album 'Tilt'- a great record.
The pop world is a lost cause
Long live music.
