From John, a profile of Electronic's upcoming album on dotmusic.com.

Excerpt:

...Sumner says, Raise The Pressure didn’t hit the spot, so we felt we had to change things. A lot of the feedback we were getting suggested that there wasn’t enough of Johnny’s guitar and we had to agree he was under-utilised.
“Synthesizers were banned in The Smiths so when we began working together I brought all my synths into the studio and Johnny started to explore them. He wanted a holiday from the guitar, and so did I really.”

The duo’s refocused approach was reflected in the way they wrote the album’s songs. Instead of writing in the studio, putting down the technology first, they simply sat down with a guitar round at each other’s homes, penning melodies and vocal lines.

Marr says, “It felt natural to plug in and write a song on the guitar again. We didn’t want to spend a great deal of time on it. In the past we’ve used the studio as an instrument and we’ve written as we recorded. There’s a place for that but this time we had most of the songs ready.”

Erm, last I'd heard, Electronic had been dropped from or had left their American label. Does anyone know for sure if or when the album is coming out in the US? Thanks.

A local dj that is very knowledgeable of the UK and US indie scenes said that yes Electronic's US label contract fell through. And he wasn't sure if they'd be getting picked up on another label or not.

So..."a lot of feedback suggested that johnny's guitar skills were being underused", eh....well, glad old bernard is finally clearing up the fog in his prozac-addled head long enough to think clearly. if you stop and listen, you can hear a thousand voices shouting "NO SH*T!!" at the same time. jeez. having one of the greatest, most creative and prolific pop guitarists in our time bumming around the studio bashing out neo-New Order bollocks on some utterly crap synth is a complete waste of everyone's time. it's like asking johnny rotten to contribute some bass guitar to a f**king bell biv devoe record.
maybe this means the new electronic album will be worth listening to. maybe not. but here's hoping bernard and johnny actually try on this one.

My sentiments exactly...what's the point of having Mr. J. Marr Esquire sitting around playing hooky's old casios? It was frustrating even when Johnny was relegated to harmonica on some of those The The tracks on dusk...The thing about Johnny that no contemporary Brittish guitarist can match (Johnny Greenwood, Bernard Butler, John Squire, Graham Coxon, Liam Tyson and Richie Oakes all come to mind) is a technical flash that makes most of his guitar parts very difficult to play....just ask The Bozzer or Alain (who by the way, absolutely wipe the floor with all the aforementioned guitarists....except Johnny of course)
