Some big names on this one. Thanks to Josh Baze for the following:

...I got this from my brother today. We're big fans of a wonderful band called Grant Lee Buffalo, so when I saw this, needless to say I flipped...

this just in:

"March 23, 1999

According to MuchMusic, Grant Lee Buffalo will appear on a tribute album for The Smiths.* Other bands to appear on the album include Radiohead, Oasis and Terrorvision.* The album is due out later this year, but no word of what tracks GLB will contribute."

From Imre:

I've found some interesting news on the 'green plastic radiohead', website:

"On the rumor front, it seems that Radiohead will be contributing to a Smiths tribute album in the near future. That is all the info that I have. The band are big fans of the Smiths and Ed has said in interviews that "the Smiths were the reason Radiohead formed."

You can find it in the news section.

no one does it like Moz and Marr although it would be interesting to see what Radiohead comes up with...

My sentiments exactly. Somebody PLEASE stop Oasis from covering a Smiths song! If I actually ever hear the song they decide to cover, I'm sure I will not be able to listen to it again for quite some time! Uh..Don't you have to be able to SING to cover a Smiths song?!!!! The Radiohead cover on the other hand should be great.

I think its bad news. Preserve the original integrity--covers only sully it. New bands: do your thing but leave the Smiths alone. You got the real thing and that's enough.

I can't believe Radiohead is doing a cover song I can't wait to hear it!! I mentioned to a friend of mine just before we graduated last year that one day I hope to hear Radiohead cover a Smiths' song. WHY OASIS????

Guess what @#!!!ers! Oasis are from Manchester and were listening to the Smiths when you @#!!!ers were still in your Quiet Riot/Whitesnake fazes! Johnny even gave Noel the famous les paul he used on 'ask'...and Moz even said himself that Oasis were the best band out of Manchester since the Smiths! HA!

Well... Why does everybody get so upset? Itīs not like the world is coming to an end here. I do agree that Oasis is very bad, but just ignore them. It doesnīt matter if they do a cover of the Smiths. It doesnīt make any difference at all. The Smiths arenīt holy you know, although some of you seem to think they are. Live your own life, and just ignore the lives of the ones you donīt like. Itīs very simple.

No more fighting! I know this is slightly off the subject but unfortunately there are no good Marr websites and this has been the most informative by far. Is there any news on the release of Electronics new Album and if it will be released in the States. I have not been able to find the article in Uncut magazine. Thanks

Whatīs the problem with Oasis? Noel & Liam think theyīre semi-god, just like moz/marr do.
Itīs just a matter of age...

This is exactly why The Smiths are never coming back. Seeing how many bland artists call The Smiths 'influential', it's no wonder why a reunion is not on the agenda. Grant Lee Buffalo is nothing but a pile of fuzzbox fecalmatter. And, there has never been a decent Smiths cover EVER. Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine's rendition of "Panic" is a huge reminder of the one and only shame Moz should ever have with The Smiths--their inspirees. I'll give Radiohead their respect, and accept Oasis' success (success and NOTHING ELSE; their music is nothing to accolade), but I guarantee that 98% of the artists and covers on this record will be nothing more than detrimental to what The Smiths were really all about. Some record executive just wanted to find a way to make money off of The Smiths and use the hip 'bands of today' to further the cause.

terrorvision? eek, radiohead make sense; it's been said that they're the smiths without the humour but they're undoubtedly one of the best current bands, of the bands that are smiths influenced/similar i'd like to see pulp, B&S, black box recorder on it, gene and suede would be a laugh too lol
putting oasis on it is well out of order, liam can sing but i can't imagine him singing the words of moz, noel is constantly giving props to the smiths, but why? there was a laddish element to the smiths fanbase - moz used to be spat on at smiths concerts, and noel is obviously part of the marr faction, this tarnishes their memory somewhat. the smiths are the best band ever and yet noel thinks oasis are better, his lastest proclamation was that oasis are the 4th best band in history, after the beatles, the sex pistols and the jam but ahead of the wrinkly rolling stones..um so that means they're better than the smiths, not to mention joy division? lol.
Still this tribute sounds good all the same and it can't be any worst than the upcoming clash tribute album filled with bad american bands, let's just hope that no doubt, everclear, third eye blind, matchbox 20 et al don't get on this album!

Well, I still like Oasis, even though "Be here now" is a bad album. But I think that Liam Gallagher is a great singer. Besides that, Iīd love also to see B&S, who played "Reel around the fountain" at a gig in Glasgow.

Ahh, The World Still Won't Listen. A friend gave it to me for a giggle, and it just about made me cry. Blasphemy! Morrissey's clever angst transformed into off-key anger. Oi!

"The World Still Won't Listen" is the only one of the three tribute albums I have that is WORTH listening to...at least those bands had a new take on some of the songs, and a bit of ENTHUSIASM. All those lame-ass "Britpop" bands on "The Smiths is Dead" just RUINED the songs...now THAT was painful. The Smiths were far more punk than they were "britpop."
Morrissey is over, by the way.
