Unlike Eric Clapton, who disappeared for 15 years and then returned to play boring adult contemporary crap, Morrissey will continue to perform for and keep his truest fans. I think he is as brilliant in 1999 as he was in 1983.

Does this mean we'll never hear Moz singing back-up for Lauryn Hill? I hear a collective sigh of relief throughout Morrissey-loving cyberspace.

I grew up in South Central L.A. and let me tell you it is nothing like you see in the movies. We all loved Morrissey and wether it be back in 93" or 99" he still gives me the chills. He is still around today and that should prove alot!! No matter what decade it is HE will still love his fans and keep giving us the best music ever to us.

I think that's it's just stupid to think that high record sales are the same thing as good music. Morrissey and R.E.M. might not sell as many records as they did in their heyday, but I consider both the latest Morrissey album and the latest R.E.M. album to be of the highest quality.

I'm curious as to what kind of research this author did. I think proof that Morrissey is not really in NEED of a rebirth or second coming should have been in his last U.S. tour. Didn't he sell out nearly ever show with the exception of maybe 2 or 3. I don't really think that is the legacy of a has been at all.

Let's face it, the last Moz tour was in downsized venues (in LA for example, he played the greek theatre, whereas before, he was playing the hollywood bowl or the great western forum) and the sales figures for Maladjusted were disappointing to say the least (what was it? 78,000 copies...compared to 500,000 each of Viva, Arsenal and Vauxhal?) And the quality wasn't as good...lets be honest friends, that old boy moz isn't what he used to be...not that he's even close to being a has been; on the contrary, his music is still leaps and bounds ahead of the mainstream. As for Stipe, the latest REM is their best since 'Automatic'...infact, 'Daysleeper' is on my walkman as I write this. But they too are slumping...downsizing the venues and depressing album sales (especially in the usa)....feel free to send me your comments, threats, inquiries...

Please, can anybody tell me who cares about records sales? Possibly people like Madonna, Mariah Carey or Michael Jackson, but surely not Moz. How can you measure music in “record sales”? Are you crazy?

I don't judge music by record sales, but the fact of the matter is, all the aforementioned artist's (including Moz) have been facing diminishing marginal returns over the last few years. That means that the same people who sold out the Hollywood Bowl in 17 minutes several years back and propelled Vauxhal and I to number 18 just don't seem to care anymore...And maybe you shouldn't either.

Morrissey has matured lyrically over the years. I think that many of the Smiths original fans were just trendy teens who didn't really understand what he was saying and can't keep up now. So if only 78,000 people "get it", that's fine with me. Who'd you rather be amongst: 78,000 Moz fans or a couple million Third Eye Blind fans? Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo...

Hey, Ronny Marr, you say maybe we shouldn't care either? I'm supposed to care less about something just because a lot of people have bad taste? You sound like a total sheep you know.
You have a right to your opinions about the music, but if you're going to argue that venue size and chart positions have anything to do with how good the music is, you only sound like a moron. Use your own friggin' ear drums to decide what's good and what's not. That's why nature gave you those ear drums, so you can hear things for your own freaking self.
Moz has shed his more trendy, shallow fans lately. All for the better.

As a younger Morrissey/Smiths fan, I can attest the health of Morrissey (even The Smiths for that matter) is alive and well. There has been a relatively large increase in the amount of teenage fans. Morrissey is so good that we will adore him until his dying day. VIVA HATE AND VIVA MOZ!!!!!

Mr Morrissey is vital and alive, rest assured fans. Maladjusted is a testament to that, regardless of the sales(as a number of the less inclined have pointed out) the songs I think are the best indicator of where our hero is at in his own life. I did not hear any fatigue,or less passion in Malajusted. I hear a man who has found an all new gleam and sings that with a sad desire unmatched by any other pop musician. Morrissey is a powerful artist who keeps on breaking barrier after barrier, never falling victim to comfortable plateaus. So I would imagine his life is one of uncomfort, which provides, ironically, the sweetness of his verses.

Nowadays it´s so easy keep on media, recording an unplugged album or producing sexist videos for mtv.
Thanks God The Smiths won´t never be like Aerosmith.

Do we really want to give any credit to a guy who doesn't even have his facts straight??? It's pretty sad that the guy thinks K Mart sponsered U2's Popmart Tour. If you want the real facts, email this address!!! And did anyone catch that at the end of the U2 paragraph he said something like "that joke just wasn't funny anymore"...? If Morrissey has no come back chance, what are we still quoting the Smiths??? The drawing was cute tho. ;-)

I have to make a point here Malajusted Sucked A** compared to Morrissey older albums. In nicer terms it wasn't so hot! What the Heck was that Cartoon about! REM sucks A**! Morrissey does not need a "rebirth" as people like to put it he is stronger than ever! That drawing wasn't that great at all of him! See people like Don Henly need a rebirth cos he sucks! Well ummmm..... thats it!
