Morrissey-solo - new format
OK, it took a while and had some small stumbling blocks,
but the new Morrissey-solo is now up and running. There's still some work to be done but
for the most part it's fully functional. New features:
- News headline format front page - should be faster loading now.
- News updates are web-based. Not only will it make things easier for me
to update (hopefully), but frequent visitors can now post directly to the site themselves
using the news update form. I realize this leaves the
site vulnerable to abuse, but that is nothing new. I will be administering and editing all
posts as if they were e-mailed to me and I was posting it myself. I'm hoping this method
of updating will work out and down the line, the site can continue with little or without
any of my involvement if need be.
- Comments / notes on news items - visitors can leave their comments,
opinions, or additions to each news item. They will most likely be archived also - I'm not
really sure how this will work either.
- Banners - random Morrissey related banners will appear every so often
beneath the news item. Thanks to the following people who banners initially - it helped a
lot in my testing and set a good example for future contributors. Thanks to: Henrik
Rydéhn, Julie Smyth, Scott Krajewski, Jason Omerza, J.P. Niven, Stephane Daigle, Pete
Mani, Brandon Flowers, Ellie and Walter Brown. Thanks to Jake The Stripper and J.P. Niven
for creating some funny parody banners.
Thanks also to Jamie Charman for the graphic for the navigation bar and to Mirko Daß,
Allison Lau and Andrew Marquis for some new logos.
- New chat room - for those into that kind of thing, the
chat room is hosted by another site and is java based so it's much faster. I think the
old one may have been draining server resources.
Feedback regarding the above is welcome - give the new site
some time before deciding if the changes are good or bad. However, if there are some
obvious technical problems please let me know right away. A lot of the changes are my
first real attempt at custom cgi programming (although most of the code is taken from
other scripts). I hope to have more time now for things like e-mail and other parts of the
site (and my life!) that have been neglected.
I realize these changes come at a time when news may be somewhat sparse, but I'm sure it
will pick up again soon.
Finally, thanks to those who have supported the site in the past couple of years, in
contributions or words of encouragement. I also appreciate those who have backed it in
places I wouldn't have necessarily seen or known about directly.

Moz references in SPIN
From Patrick:
...I dont know if youve been reading "Spin" magazine lately, but theyve been using some serious Moz references in their letters sectioncalled "Going Postal." For instance, headings excerpted from the last two issues are "This Charming Man" and "Youre The One For Me Fatty." In another recent issue, SPIN used Morrissey in their rock music candy land esc. game board. Morrissey was, as usual, the stylish and broadish space on the board. I'm amazed at how much influence Morrissey still has over popular culture.
