From Andrew Wegley:
...I saw an interesting article on Morrissey in relation to
Irish music (after being directed there from a Kate Bush website). The article originally
appeared in the Irish Post, a series about the Voice of the Irish in
Britain
This
charming Irishman

An excerpt from the article:...
Morrissey later bought a house in Dublin, but his restlessness made it impossible for him
to settle there. He has lived in London, Manchester, Hollywood and Dublin, but the concept
of "home" appears to have become increasingly elusive. More than ever, he has
become the outsider immortalised in his lyrics.
Now approaching 40, he continues to send intimate letters from a tortured psyche with
lyrics that betray pained vulnerability and protestations of persecution often wrapped in
layers of playful self-irony and engaging wit.
He remains the most convincing case study of that peculiar phenomenon of second-generation
Irish dislocation - a character imprisoned between two conflicting cultures.

Comments / Notes
I really thought this was a very interesting article. Everybody always talks about the Britishness of what Morrissey does, but it may be the first time I've heard anybody talk about his family's emigration from Ireland and the effect it had on him as a person and as an artist...
