I found an old Special Issue of the main national French newspaper Liberation entirely dedicated to Jean Cocteau, dated July 1983, with this picture next to an article about a young man who idolised Cocteau so much he tattooed one of his drawings on his shoulder. Note the blue rectangle next to the picture, the same blue as used on Hatful of Hollow...

Maybe I was the only one not to know where Morrissey found the inspiration for the record sleeve, but I was happy to somehow locate precisely the source!

Please find attached the press release (.doc format) and front cover for our latest title ‘Johnny Marr: The Smiths and the Art of Gun-slinging’. It is the first ever biography on Johnny Marr, and we naturally thought it would be of interest to visitors of your site.

Here is a note sent from the company that is publishing Marr's new book:

"Thanks for the note. It’s being delayed til Sept 28th as we managed to get some great new interviewees and thought it best to delay slightly. It will defo be out for then and is a corker."

This from Johnny Marr's website:

'September 06th 2006: Johnny answers to the Isaac Brock Comments that were made to Rolling Stone

Johnny : "Isaac contacted me and asked if I'd help Modest Mouse write the new album. I was intrigued and played with the band in Portland a couple of times. We hit it off and wrote three great songs straight away, something clicked, it felt right from the off. I have a new Healers album pretty much done, but we've been having such a good time playing these new Modest Mouse songs. When people hear the record they'll see why, we're very good together."'

I only mention this as it refers to a new Healers album, which I assumed would not see the light of day.

Sorry for jumping the gun a bit with a previous posting.

The distribution discussions took a twist, hence the delay in releasing the film.

The producers have taken the decision of launching the film globally on a date to be decided, probably in March 07 via Vital Distribution.

Discussions are also taking place to show a slightly shorter edit of the film through MTV at around the same time.

I'd like to make clear that this production is in no way critical of Morrissey or Marr, in fact I would say the opposite.

Mike and Andy are very proud of their achievements with The Smiths snd would not wish to see the legacy damaged or slandered in any way.
In fact the film is conciliatory in it's tone.

It's twenty years since release of 'The King is Dead' and 'Inside the Smiths' is very much a celebration of that fact. The film is respectful to the memory of the band and all of the band members.

Whilst the rythm section of The Smiths were an important part of the band Mike and Andy fully recognise the massive contributions made by messrs marr and morrissey to the band and the british and global music scenes.

I sincerely hope you enjoy the film, a celebration of one of the worlds most legendary bands. A lot of work went into ensuring that the film gives fans of the Smiths something for their money that they can enjoy and treasure as an interesting documentary and a genuine resource containing useful and interesting information.

My autobiographical novel 'Suicide Junkie' has just been published as an ebook from Chipmunkapublishing. The novel is a memoir about my poor mental health and Morrissey and the Smiths feature heavily in the prose. e.g. Song I want played at my funeral 'I know it's over' qoute: 'The only pleasure I had was to drink and to sing a long with the Smiths, the only way to make misery more acceptable.' Quote 'My life was a fu***ng Smiths record' And how about the time when I had 'I know it's over' tattooed on my shoulder?! May be of interest to some readers if not for the story but for the nods to my favourite man of music. Go to www.swestwood.com to read more and link to the buy it page. Thanks

On Tuesday, September 5, I was interviewed by Rob McConnell on “The X-zone Radio Show”, an internationally syndicated nightly program. The topic of the interview was THE DIANA-MORRISSEY PHENOMENON, (Morrissey’s apparent foreshadowing of Princess Diana’s death as detailed at www.dianamystery.com). You can listen to an archived recording of the interview by going to this link.

When you get there, scroll down to

Tuesday, September 5, 2006.

The interview takes place in the 2nd hour of the four-hour program. If you’re not interested in the other subject matter then just skip to the “1 hour and 15 minutes” mark for the start of the interview, (you’ll hear part of the song CEMETRY GATES as the intro to the interview). The interview ends at the “1 hour and 59 minutes” mark. It includes breaks for commercials, news, and music.

Again, the interview begins at the “1 hour and 15 minute” mark and ends at the “1 hour and 59 minutes” mark.
