Q. What do you love the most about living here and now?

A: Everything I love remains in my own somewhat private view of how I'd wish it all to be. I don't think much of life as a whole, and the world seems to be a complete and utter mess – thanks to people like Bush and Blair. I'm astonished that I'm still here – at 46, which seemed an unreachable age to me not so long ago. I am about to release a new album and many people seem to be very interested – which is a surprise considering how many times I've been publicly buried. But I'm still at the stage whereby I have absolutely no idea where I'll be in seven days' time. Face down in the gutter?

Irish music and listings freesheet 'connected' has a short interview with Andy Rourke, who recently played a DJ set in Dublin. Asked if there is any chance of him ever sharing the stage with Morrissey again, he replies:

'... mmm ... well ya know never say never that's what I always say. Yeah it's a tough one, there's a few things that probably need resolving. But yeah never say never'.
[interviewer:] That's a good philosophy to have.

Smiths Reunion For ‘Manchester V Cancer’ Gig? - XFM Online

It sounds unlikely, but rumours are currently circulating that The Smiths may reunite for a special charity gig organised by ex-Smiths bass player, Andy Rourke.

...This comes at a time when Morrissey fansites are hitting melting point over reports that the man himself was recently spotted dining with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. A reunion may still seem unlikely, but never say never all you miserablists…
---
(davidt): This was clearly stated as a likely hoax and the person who submitted it to various sites even admitted it, so I don't think 'fansites are hitting melting point' is accurate.

MARK KOZELEK: ALL MIXED UP - San Francisco Chronicle

The Smiths, "I Know It's Over" (1985)

"I discovered the Smiths in my late teens," Kozelek says. "I moved to Atlanta from Ohio and that was a turning point from all the things I had grown up with. I started to explore bands like R.E.M. and the Dead Kennedys, all these other artists that were doing stuff in a completely different way. When I heard a guy like Morrissey, who was pouring his heart out in this way that was very real, this clarity and emotion, he gave me hope as a singer. It wasn't possible for me to sound like the people I grew up with like Bon Scott or Jon Anderson, but with Morrissey it was more about what he was saying. So it made me think, 'I can also be a singer. I have some things to say, too.' "

Hi Everyone,

Over the past month Jürgen (my partner in crime) and I have been setting up the spoof Morrissey site, True-to-Yew.

We launch this December 1st.

We've had a fantastic response for writers for the site. It's great to know that there others out there like us who can see the absurdity in this whole Morrissey thing.

We're now looking for contributions from artists & cartoonists. We have a small budget for artwork and we're willing to pay for the best & brightest cartoons parodying Morrissey, the band, the fans, or the ridiculous world of Morrissey (no, not the album, but if you could make the album funny then that too.).

Futhermore, we're still looking for 2 more writers. If you have a peverse sense of humour and can write cleverly write about Morrissey-related events then you should write for us. We have a modest budget and pay for the articles we publish.

For more information send an e-mail to: [email protected].

The Music That Changed My Life - Spin

On the tail end of his band's whirlwind tour for the double-platinum Hot Fuss, the Killers' frontman talks about how David Bowie, Jim Croce, and Frank Sinatra shaped his rock'n'roll evolution.

Morrissey, Vauxhall and I (Sire, 1994)

"It's my favorite Morrissey album. I became one of the Morrissey freaks -- I had every Smiths album and every Morrissey album. I understand how people could listen to it and feel morose, but it made me happy. He has a sense of humor, and I'm a sentimental person, so I got it. It didn't make me want to wear all black."

Morrissey is mentioned in the lyrics of Wakefield band The Old House's (possibly named after The Smiths song "back to the old house"?) new single "Relationships Hooray!".

The chorus is:

"Maybe one day, you'll say
You're the one for me, buddy (x2)
But only Morrissey would say something as great as that"

Its a very good song which I recently heard played on Lamacq on BBC Radio 1.

This song is available on 7" vinyl from Wrath records (link).

Whilst reading the free MEN light newpaper this Thursday i was shocked and ashamed to discover that David Cameron (possibly the next Tory leader) is a self proclaimed Smiths Fan.

The paper was asking both David Cameron and David Davis what they knew about Manchester and where they have been. Cameron stated that he had been to Salford, so he could go and pose outside Salford Lads club. !!!

Vote Cameron !!!

US record label Sanctuary sued for 50 million dollars

Excerpt:

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - A US music group said it had sued the owner of the world's largest independent music catalog for 50 million dollars for allegedly failing to supply albums for release in a hybrid disc format.

The 5.1 entertainment group said it had filed suit against British-based Sanctuary Records Group for alleged breach of contract and fraud linked to a deal to supply albums by artists including Morrissey, Black Sabbath, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant and Meat Loaf.

The 5.1 group claims in its suit filed in Los Angeles in July that Sanctuary deliberately flouted a 2003 deal to supply music to 5.1 for release in the DualDisc format, a hybrid compact disc and DVD.

I couldn't possibly get it on listening to Morrissey I'm afraid, though I have tried.
