One of the evening's surprises was the punk/new wave band Gang of Four triumphing over the Pixies, Tom Waits, Morrissey and Neil Young in the readers' vote to win the Inspiration award.

Mr Alexander said: "It will surprise a number of people, but the Gang of Four were touring about the time of the vote. History has shown them to be incredibly ahead of their time. Their music has had an impact on bands from REM and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to The Futureheads. In the last two years, the whole world has gone a bit Gang of Four."

morrissey spotted at The Coral show last night at the Troubadour. Had a male friend (?) with him.

· Serial flower-abuser Morrissey— at the Troubadour for The Coral (6/14). Must say he’s looking very well, L.A. living agrees with him— Existential Angst apparently no match for Sunshine and Hot Latin Inches…

· Last night at The Troubadour (6/15) there was a plethora of Brit attendees to see The Coral. First was a well-dressed Morrissey with his “Latino twin” sitting in the balcony on their own with a security guard blocking the entrance to their bench. Later, PJ Harvey came with some friends and sat next to Moz, but not even PJ Harvey could sit right next to Morrissey as the “Latino twin” was in between them for the entire show. As they sat up on the balcony in “their world,” Charlatans UK singer Tim Burgess was spotted hanging out in the crowd, aka “our world,” with some friends. Welcome to LA.

The music firm warned earnings would be 40% lower for the first six months of the financial year, compared to the £10.6m posted in same period 2004.

Sanctuary - home to Kelly Osbourne, The Charlatans and Morrissey - blamed "significant slippage" of record releases which had led to lower sales.

Shares in the firm had sunk almost 29.07% to 30.5 pence by 1000 GMT.

On Steve Jones' radio show on Indie 103.1 FM Los Angeles "Jonesy’s Juke Box", he intro'ed Morrissey's "Everyday is Like Sunday" with a "parody" of the song as a "jingle" for his radio show.

Just prior to this he played guitar and whistled "Everyday is Like Sunday" for a contest. A prize was awarded to 2 people who could name the song he was playing/whistling.

I wasn't able to record his whistling version, but did record his "parody":

New York Doll to be screened at the LA Film Fest feat. Morrissey

Early this year I saw "New York Doll" at the Sundance film festival. The fantastic documentary about the life of Arthur Kane, and his reunification with his band the New York Dolls at Morrissey Meltdown Festival.

It is now back and ready to be seen at this years LA Film Festival. The documentary features Morrissey interviews, as well as Iggy Pop, The Pretenders and a few others. It is not to be missed. Arthur and the Dolls make for a fantastic story, and this documentary is highly recommended for any music fan. There are only 2 showings, and it is often hard to get tickets to anything at the LA Film Fest. Visit www.lafilmfest.com and do a search for New York Doll.

I just launched my new line of greeting cards at the National Stationery Show in NYC and the name of our company (Handsome Devil Press) is inspired by the classic Smiths b-side. I've been a fan of Morrissey for 20 years and this is my little way of paying homage to my all time favorite musical artist. The card called Perfect Rainy Day might be of interest to the Morrissey Solo gang. If I get enough positive feedback on this one, I'm considering doing more Morrissey flavored cards if there's an audience for them. Thanks for keeping up the good work!

"Is It Really So Strange?" screening in Oakland, CA (June 22)

The Parkway will be screening "Is It Really So Strange?," as part of the Frameline LGBT Film Festival. In case you haven't heard of it, it's a documentary about el Senor Morrissey's Latino fan base in Southern California, and their assorted intense reactions to his music and personality.

The Parkway is a lovely institution full of cozy couches, with an array of beers on tap. This event should attract an even more boisterously enthusiastic mob than usual. Oakland seems like an excellent place to see this film, since it is probably the closest thing to a cross between Manchester and L.A. that one could care to imagine.
