tomsidg writes: I've recently got my grubby mits on the DVD and I thought I'd let you all know whats it like. I wrote a very quick mini review on the message boards and posted some screen shots here.
Basically when you the play the main feature it begins with an interview with an american couple from California. They say how they discovered Moz in 88 and have been in love with him ever since. Then Imperfect List starts as footage of Manchester is shown throughout the whole song. This footage is extremely effective. It begins with footage of the moors close to the graves of the children killed by Hindley. The main theme then is of old Manchester (factories, terraces, strangeways) mixing with new Manchester (office blocks). The gig then begins. After the final credits of the gig a documentary on Morrisseys fans begins. This is not an extra feature on the DVD. It just comes on when you leave the main feature running. This includes footage of the Salford Lads Club and various interviews around Manchester. There are unfortunately no interviews with Morrissey or his band. The final interview, however, shows an Irish bloke hoping that Morrissey will never 'bow out' and retire. Then some old archive footage of the lads club is shown. THE END.

Elbow writes: I was perusing the BBC web site and discovered two pages dedicated to a Symposium happening on The Smiths. The Seminar aims to give The Smiths the academic attention they are long overdue by examining what the band meant and mean today. The events themes will cover gender and sexuality, race and nationality, a sense of place, the imagination of class, the significance of Manchester in popular music, the aesthetics of the band, fan cultures and musical innovation.
The event will take place at Manchester Metropolitan University on April 8th – 9th 2005.

The Guardian
In the UK, the music of Morrissey and the Smiths is the whitest pop imaginable. This side of heavy metal, there is nothing so pale as a gathering (or "gripe" as the collective term should be) of bequiffed Smiths fans in floral shirts having their picture taken outside Salford Lads' Club. All things Morrissey have become shorthand for middle English, middle-class, late-teen angst.
Here's the rest:

An anonymous person also writes: NYC tix for March 28 screening sold out asap. I called Loews today and they are selling tix for an additional screen - same time, same day. I know there are alot of fans who left out. I emailed all folks in the "wanted" section of craigslist looking for tix and told them to jump on Fandango..thought I could help out more NYC area folks by alerting you. Thanks! Eugenia who saw way too many smiths shows in the 80's

damien dixon writes: This is really old news, but I picked up an album by a hardcore emo/scremo band recently and one of their songs, Populace In Two, mentions Morrissey: "even if I spent 2004, listening to Morrissey in my car, I'm better off alone, than I would be in your arms". The song is from their 2004 album 'Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count'.
It's kinda irrelevant, but some people like to listen to bands that have been influenced by Morrissey.

THE DELTAS featuring BOZ BOORER (Polecats, Morrissey) plus special guests and DJs
Boz Boorer's credentials are impeccable ladies and gentlemen, this suited’n’booted Rockabilly doyen has pressed more great cuts than you had childhood grazes and then more some, whether as MORRISSEY’S guitar slinging musical cohort, or with his very own and very swell POLECATS and BOZ BOORER AND THE BOZMEN this fella has come up trumps time and time again. Check also his collaborations with KIRSTY MACOLL, ADAM ANT and EDWYN COLLINS. Tonight sees a full band show from the stupendously great Deltas. Grasp those tickets early good people.
I have already got my tickets. Johnny Marr is also known to frequent the venue as Haven rehearse somewhere in it's attic apparently, might be worth popping in to collect your tickets?
