I've transcribed the WORD #23 (Jan 2005) interview, as well as scanned in some photographs from the magazine. Some great quotes from the ever witty Morrissey, including my favorite quote from the interview:

"Yes, the profile has been a little higher than of late but I shudder when I hear the word 'come back'. I don't like to think that I'm back. I've always been here. It implies something about revisiting the past. There's nothing in the past I'd go back for. No reason ever to. As far as I'm aware only Doctor Who can go back in time."

Hmmm. Was watching Video Hits this morning (an Australian music video show), and Hilary Duff was being interviewed. The host asked her the kind of music she was interested in, she rattled off a few bands and then mentioned she liked some older stuff, like The Cure and Morrissey. Good to see the youngins taking an interest in good music!!

Just saw this today in Issue #807 of Entertainment Weekly (Sin City cast on cover). The Smiths' "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" named the 39th greatest love song of all time. The magazine has ranked the top 50 love songs in preparation for Valentine's Day. Sandwiched between Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" and Captain and Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together", here is the text that accompanies the rank:

"If a 10-ton truck kills the both of us/To die by your side--Well the pleasure, the privilege is mine." Morrissey may be romance' great (often hilarious) cynic, but he's also the most adept at capturing its twisted side: to be so obsessed you don't care if you die.

Morrissey now has his own entry in Roger's Profanisaurus, the brilliant dictionary of UK swear words and phrases created by Viz Magazine.

The following entry appears in the latest edition of the magazine (Issue 142) but these are then compiled into a hardback book every year or so - the recent edition of the Profanisaurus had 4,000 words and phrases, most of them hugely funny.

The Moz entry reads;

MORRISSEY'S STAG NIGHT, LIKE (sim).

Descriptive of a public house peopled
entirely by broken men of indeterminate
age staring silently at their half-empty
pint glasses. Eg, 'Shall we go to Yates's
instead? It's like Morrissey's stag night
in here'.

Quite funny, I think.

The irony is that if Morrissey ever were to have a stag night it would be peopled by skinheads, ex-boxers, Courtney Love, and the surviving members of the New York Dolls. In short, utter mayhem.
