Morrissey gives an interview with today's City Life Magazine, which I have transcribed for the benefit of non-English fans of his Mozjesty. (Update: 07/03 20:17 GMT: scans of the article posted on the general discussion board by gIrL uNaFrAiD.)

Typical brainless questions, but never mind. The accompanying photos are nice, but nothing spectacular. Moz makes some interesting comments on Manchester, the recent documentary, the war in Iraq and, erm, Larry Grayson (!), manages to mention Linder Sterling no less than three times, and drops tantalising hints he'll be playing the Manchester MEN arena soon! Please forgive the odd grammatical error, I'm not the world's greatest typist.

AND DON'T FORGET THE SONGS...

In only his British Press interview in seven years, Manchester's Greatest Ever Frontman (as voted by you) speaks exclusively to City Life about everything from life in LA to his new album, from Manchester's urban regeneration to the on-going ill health of British pop. The more we ignore Morrissey, it seems...

Lisa Hosojima sends the link and welcomes Morrissey admirers:

Morrissey section at Hosojima Art

and also adds, "Morrissey has a beauty which exudes from his very pores, it's not just on the surface, and that is the element I hope to portray in my art of him."

The Thriils mention Morrissey in yet another interview which appeared in the magazine supplement of the Sunday Express on 29 June. They say Morrissey came to see them rehearse and Daniel said:

"It was weird, we thought he must be mad into music we all like but he does not seem to like any music. We listed 50 bands and he liked 2 of them."

Perhaps they should check out "Under the Influence"

Radio Four has a show on at the moment called 'Armitage and Moore's Guide To Song'. It's in three parts and airs on Tuesdays from 1.30pm-2.00pm. Part one was broadcast last week, but can be found at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml

Not sure if, or when, it will be replaced by part two, which will be about the ways in which the performance effects the meaning of the song.

Moore teaches a Popular Music course and Armitage is a poet. The first show covered the use of character in song, and one of the tracks discussed was 'Reel Around The Fountain'. It wasn't nearly as sophisticated as I would have hoped, but if you would like to hear Morrissey and Richard Clayderman mentioned in the same breathe then it's certainly worth giving it a go. Be warned - Natalie Merchant is also featured.
