Neil G writes: NEWS JUST IN!
Janice Long on BBC Radio 2 has just read out a fax from Morrissey (signed by him) to say words to the following effect (not precise transcription).
'To all 12 people in the UK who are interested, I would like to let you know that I have signed to Attack on the Sanctuary label. Have begun recording my first album in 40 years. Please dedicate (something) to my nephews Sam and Johnny and say hi to everyone that knows me.'
Janice Long then played 'The world is full...' from last year's Radio 2 session.
As I said, not 100% accurate transcription but I think most of the details are there. Pretty funny stuff served with a nice dollop of trademark self-deprecation.
Best wishes to all. Neil G, London, England.

spawned monster writes: In issue 3 of the new music magazine BANG, 2 Moz related stories on the same page!
1) Stephen Malkmus (formerly of Pavement) speaks of his next album: "Celebrity guests are a good thing if they're fucking amazing singers or something. I'd love to have Shirley Collins . . . and maybe Keith Richards, Morrissey, a couple of Super Furry Animals - they can come along." What a strange studio session that would be!!
2)Entitled "Back to the old house", this is probably old news, but I'll mention it anyway: "Morrissey has signed a new UK record deal with Sanctuary - the music group which now owns Rough Trade, The Smiths' old label... An insider at Sanctuary admitted: " Yeah, he signed last week. He'll be recording for us soon - just don't quote me on it."
And don't forget the NME Smiths special on June 7th.---
fut also writes: Sanctuary Records Mailing List I signed up for Sanctuary Records mailing list and it took me to this registration page that has a bunch of checkboxes next to bands you want to know more information about... one of them is Morrissey. Just thought you might like to know, or maybe you already do?

Richard de Pesando writes:
There has been renewed interest in The Grave Maurice after the announcement
of the 'Under The Influence" CD - and I see a few people have been asking
where the pub is. Yeah - its a great picture, yes its a pub on the
Whitechapel Road with a huge history and associations to the development of
the East End myth, but its is NOT the pub it used to be - that pic was taken
in 1995 - shortly after the Maurice changed hands - if you go in there now
you are likely to get your bag snatched, its not funny or clever and the
landlord isn't interested in Morrissey fans. [more]

Torr Leonard writes: July 2003 issue of Spin, Thom Yorke of Radiohead on the cover
While talking about Thom Yorke being a gymnast in high school, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien says "It's like how Morrissey was a great long-distance runner in high school - nobody knows that, either". Later on the article says that The Smiths are one of the bands top two influences, whom all 5 members love unequivocally.
