This week's NME features The Charlatans. Tim Burgess, who seems to mention Morrissey in every interview, says:
"With this record we've achieved much more than most groups, more than say, The Smiths. I met Morrissey and thought he was sad, I thought he was a fool. He lives in LA for a completely different reason than me. He expects people to treat him with respect. I make sure I gain respect. He sits there in Greta Garbo's old house waiting for someone to offer him a record deal whereas I'll phone anybody, I'll talk to anybody."
If anyone wants to defend Morrissey, the interview states that Tim's local is the Cat and Fiddle!!

This appeared in the September issue of Alternative Press. The article is entitled "10 Essential Commercial Flops" by Todd Hutlock. Here`s the section that refers to Morrissey:
Morrissey
Southpaw Grammar
While the Smiths struggled to gain an expanded audience in the United States, Morrissey's solo career had no such trouble, with multiple hit albums and sold out tours. With Southpaw Grammar, Morrissey led his band to a heavier, more experimental brand of guitar rock, and his audience didn`t follow. Consolation prize: Southpaw is the A.P. editor in chief's favorite Morrissey album. (Reprise, 1995)
How Badly did it bomb?
Morrissey's 1994 album, Vauxhall and I, charted in the U.S. at a healthy number 18. Southpaw Grammar only reached a paltry no.66.

I don't know if this is a quote from the Smiths, or if there is a deeper source, but this caught my attention (from Hello, stranger: top pickup lines by Rhona Raskin):
Still, pick-up lines addicts are so prevalent that they can even be broken down into groups:
1. Goth: “Call me morbid, call me pale, call me yours" or “Do you practice safe hex? ”
2. Christian: “Have you ever tried praying at a drive in movie before?” or “What are your plans for tonight? Feel like a Bible study?”
3. Sufferers of Attention Deficit Disorder: "Excuse me, but I just noticed that the color of your eyes reminds me of something I saw in Hawaii. I was walking on the beach and ... Oh cool! They have beer nuts here."
4. Incurable romantics: "I never believed in love at first sight until YOU walked into the room."
5. Sex fiends: "If I said you had a beautiful body would you hold it against me?”

I was reading an interview in the Chicago Sun-Times on everybody's favorite band: The Barenaked Ladies (just kidding). Vocalist Steven Page said and I quote "Teen dreams have their place. I had a little bit of a crush on Debbie Gibson. I was more into The Smiths than her kind of music, but I did have a cassette of her "Out Of The Blue." Pretty interesting huh?

The 8th of September Morrissey will be honoured at the club "Saturn" (at Haket, Masthuggstorget) in Gothenburg. Moz songs will be played and danced to on the basement floor and on the upper floor concert videos will be shown ( among others New York 1999 ). This event has become quite a tradition at the club Saturn. Last year the place was almost turned upside-down by riotting rockabillies an teddyboys. It was all done in a very gentleman-like fashion of course. The place will be packed so be there in time. The gates will open at 9pm and the entrance fee is 50 kronor. And whatever happens, don't behave yourself - or YOU'RE OUT!
