This appeared as a full page in BIG BROTHER MAGAZINE #74 (Jun 01). 'am' is short for amateur skateboarder. The differences between professional skateboards (like Tony Hawke) is they get paid money for skateboarding in tournaments, while amateur boarders get promotional skateboards, clothes, etc, but basically do not get paid money skating. The writer of the article, I think his name is Dave Carnie, one of the editors of Big Brother Magazine, and apparently the owner (?) of Whale Cock skateboarding.

A week ago Danny Eccleston, site editor of Q-online, gave 4 examples of horrible lyrics in music history ... and asked through email (Editor's letter) the Q-readers to come up with a fifth. To my big surprise I read today in the new Editor's letter:

"First off, thanks for the staggering volume of suggestions for the fifth worst lyric of all time. The surprising number of votes for Morrissey's "King Leer" notwithstanding ("Your boyfriend he / Went down on one knee / Well could it be/ He's only got one knee?" - shocking and lazy), the outright winner was Des'ree's "Life" ("I don't wanna see a ghost / It's the thing that I fear most / I'd rather have a piece of toast" - Ker-LANG!)."

Shame on the Q-readers!! But maybe this is an idea for a poll ... Morrissey worst (difficult!) vs. his best lyrics?

Not too sure what channel it was on as I was severely jet-lagged and disorientated, but I caught a programme last night (May 29) on one of the UK cable music channels about the Ivor Novello Awards. It included footage of Moz's Outstanding Contribution award a few years back handed out by Anthony Newley, complete with poncey bow tie, followed by the all-too-brief acceptance speech: "I'd like to thank Anthony Newley, and John Marr/Maher of Wythenshawe"

I'm certain it won't have been the first time it was aired, but it's the first time I'd seen it.

The "songs" soundtrack to the movie DEAD MAN'S CURVE, which features "Girlfriend In A Coma" in one scene, has been cancelled by Chromatic Records who are intending to focus on other projects due to rights problems with some of the songs on the soundtrack. Other artists that were scheduled to be the album include Aimee Mann, Wild Colonials and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The album has actually been on Japanese import for a while but is impossible to find.
