I've been informed by a trusted source that the upcoming The Very Best of The Smiths compilation is being released without the consent of either Morrissey or Marr. In fact, both have contested the release, and Morrissey has even objected to the cover art, which features the late Charles Hawtrey. WEA's response was that it has already gone into production so nothing can be done. Neither Morrissey nor Marr have heard these "remastered" tracks. And, it looks like Rhino Records has their sights set on releasing a Best of Morrissey compilation in the very near future.
