The mention was included in the Random Notes section of the new Rolling Stone (January 18, 2001 issue) [pg. 14]. The text is as follows:
MORRISSEY AN SRC FAN

The reclusive Morrissey turned up at L.A.'s Whisky A Go-Go to witness Bay Area quartet Snake River Conspiracy performing their version of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now?" SRC feature former Third Eye Blind guitarist Kevin Cadogan, but that's not what brought Morrissey out. "I went there because of the song," the Mozzer says. "It's a better version than ours!" Why didn't you hop onstage and sing along, Mo? "I don't think there's any need for me to do that; they're not my proteges. I haven't put them together with paste and paper, you know." SRC vocalist Tobey Torres creamed in her leather pants when she saw her hero walk through the door. "I had all the lyrics of his songs written on the wall in permanent ink," she admits. "I was a depressed child."
The same picture (caption: "Tobey Torres touches her hero, Morrissey") that appeared on the Reprise site 3 months is included with the small article.
---
In recent conversation Morrissey mentioned that he liked the SRC version at first but wasn't so sure about it now. As a side note - apparently bands keep requesting permission to cover "How Soon Is Now?" And apparently Morrissey has stopped giving permission. He wondered why they don't choose a different song, perhaps "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before"?

3. Morrissey at the Chicago Theatre, Feb. 11

He had no album out, no record label muscle backing him up, but former Smiths diva Morrissey held court like he was king of the world yet again.

Cramming intense theater into a 75-minute show, Morrissey offered himself up as the main course, flailing himself about and peppering former Smiths manifestos like "Meat is Murder" with brilliantly wounded drama. All his look-alikes in the crowd ate it up and Morrissey, in top croon, looked happy people still cared.

HAWKSLEY WORKMAN, OPENING FOR MORRISSEY, HAMILTON PLACE, FEB. 16: Crowd reaction moves from stunned to silence to open-hearted acceptance as this uncompromising Toronto songwriter swished on stage, plugged in his Telecaster, and cranked out a miniature, electric rock opera all by his lonesome. He claimed to beat Moz in a backstage ping-pong game, too.
