Regarding the forthcoming Los Angeles appearance - I have been dropped some hints but do not have the full details so things might change. As several people have already posted or deduced, this will be a DVD signing (at midnight, on the date the DVD goes on sale, Oct. 17). I believe wristbands will be distributed on the previous Friday (around 500 or so) with pre-purchase of the DVD. Please do not call the record store as they will not be giving out any info regarding this event.

Full details will be posted here on Oct. 9.

The following)blurb (plus photo) appears on the Reprise Records news page:
On September 19 Snake River Conspiracy played at the Whiskey in L.A. as the "Bush and Gore Tour" lurched towards its end. Tobey and the boys were as hot as they've ever been and Tobey's high school hero, Morrissey, visited the band backstage after seeing the show. Tobey, who had suggested the cover of Morrissey's song "How Soon Is Now" on Sonic Jihad, the band's debut, dedicated the song to "a special man from Manchester" when the band played the song live. Earlier in the week, the Billboard Videos Awards announced that SRC's "How Soon Is Now" clip had been nominated for an award as the best clip by a new alternative band. Next step for SRC-- a West Coast tour with Queens of the Stone Age and a live performance on the Halloween episode of the television show "Charmed."

From the PETA web site:
News Release: STARS WANT FUR OUT OF VOGUE

For Immediate Release:
September 21, 2000

New York -- As PETA prepares for tonight's "Antidote to Fashion Week" party at SPA (with hosts Sandra Bernhard and Todd Oldham), the animal rights group is delivering to Vogue's Anna Wintour an anti-fur petition signed by the bevy of celebrities who feted PETA at the group's 20th anniversary bash last Wednesday at Hollywood's Viper Room. Dharma and Greg's Jenna Elfman and Thomas Gibson, Shalom Harlow, Tobey Maguire, Mark McGrath, Pamela Anderson and beau Marcus Schenkenberg, Bill Maher, Alicia Silverstone, Andy Dick, Chrissie Hynde, Morrissey, and Rosanna Arquette all signed the petition, which reads: "We, the undersigned, believe that there is nothing fashionable about killing animals for vanity."

At the SPA bash, Bernhard will send her own message via an anti-fashion anthem ("I Like You Better Undressed") that she wrote and will perform on stage with a cluster of "naked" models. The song, along with "Animal Kingdom" by Prince, served as the CD invitation to PETA's Fashion Week bash.

So I come over to my sister's house and she jumps up to say, 'guess what I recorded?" (I've got her trained on watching out for Mozz trivia.) She recorded about a week ago an episode of HOLLYWOOD COPS (on TLC) a stabbing outside, after a L.A. Mozz show, a fight between two fans. The cops didn't get to say why it happened, but the friends of the stab-ee was wearing a Mozz t-shirt. On the back it said, "Last Of The Inter...". It was a trip to see the the other fans walking by with Mozz shirts and a buzzed fan asking a cop where Mozz was so he could get a autograph.

And another account of the show, from MOZ MEX:

well this is somewhat old news...but when nobody's sure about who thinks what about Moz, its good to know it by person.

I work at the international airport of Israel and there I saw Michael Stipe, coming back home from a vacation in Tel Aviv (to get some quiet and inspiration). He was short-bearded, short, and in short not very celebrity-looking.

Well I just approached and talked to him, got his autograph, told him I love his music and asked him, with a careful tone:

ME: Are you still in touch with Morrissey?
MS:You know, that's funny, because I only hung around with him for three days and everbody's asking me about him as if we've been married for eight years or something...

ME:You know, I ask because nobody really knows anything about his personal life, he's very discreet...
MS:Oh yeah, he's a weird guy, very strange... very intelligent but very strange.

The famous Swedish writer (and devoted Morrissey fanatic) Peter Birro has just released a book of articles and essays called "My Face and My Name""Knockout" - it is the story of a former champion who now tours around Sweden playing country and western while he dreams of a comeback. He meets a Russian friend and he ends up in Murmansk getting involved with the mafia. He also falls in love with a prostitute, which has its complications.

The film will have its premiere in November.
