First with this reference on UK television (Aug. 4) is David T (different):

Room 101 is a show presented by the deadpan UK comedian, Paul Merton, in which celebrities from various walks of life are permitted to nominate a selection of things they hate to "Room 101", and Paul Merton decides whether they are let in or not.

This weeks guest was the actress/comedienne Kathy Burke (Nil By Mouth, Harry Enfield show etc). One of her choices was "Soppy love songs, because they're really crap".

To prove the point, they played named Lionel Ritchie's "Hello".

As an example of the sort of love songs she really liked she cited the love songs written by Morrissey, and quoted the lyrics to "The More You Ignore Me".

She also gave as an example the Buzzcocks "Ever Fallen in Love"...

Sound woman (on both counts!)

For those who weren't able to attend or just couldn't, we have a few pictures of the Polecats as well as Boz himself that were taken at the "sold out" July 29, 2000 gig at the Bowl-a-rama. They are available at Work Is A Four-Letter Word. Unfortunately, Morrissey was not in attendance. Despite that, the show was great! Opening acts included Pearl Harbour, Champagne Velvet, and Tiger Army. The Polecats took the stage slightly after 12 midnight and performed for roughly an hour.

Note: Check the site for other recent pictures (Gene in Hollywood, Salford Lads gig).
