Do Morrissey fans still come to the Reprise site?

Now that the Smiths DVD is out and OYE ESTEBAN (Morrissey's long-awaited DVD) is getting the finishing touches put on it for a September 5th release, Reprise is mulling over the idea of a BEST OF MORRISSEY CD. So if you're a real Moz fan, let us know what songs you'd like to see included on this package. In return, we'll send the first 50 respondants, a CD advance of Snake River Conspiracy's great version of "How Soon Is Now?"

Send your ideas, along with your name and a snail mail address, to [email protected]

Here is an extract from an article entitled "The Sixty Second Interview" that I read this Monday in a "Metro", a free newspaper which is handed out to commuters on London Underground trains. The newspaper is published by the same people who publish the Evening Standard, which is the main London evening newspaper. For non-Brits "Coronation Street" is a popular and long running gritty, rough, tough and gruff soap opera set somewhere in the north of England. Probably Manchester. I have some recollection that as a young man, Moz sent some unsolicited scripts into "Corrie" which were well received but not used.

Miss Truth - June 5, 2000

Moody music icon Morrissey paid a visit to check out the band which his years as lead singer of the Smiths influenced, Gene, at the band's sold-out gig at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Calif. on Friday (June 2). The Moz's presence set off a bit of a frenzy, as many fans of Gene were once (and still are) crazed followers of Morrissey and the Smiths. In the V.I.P section of the club, Gene's Martin Rossiter, Morrissey, and Morrissey's guitarist Alain Whyte shot the shit about life in general before the Moz sped off in his car trailed by a group of screaming fans. Rossiter later said, "We're both fruits, we just taste different."

Gene will play another one-off show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on July 10.

Spin.com news - June 1, 2000

Today is the birthday for two members of essential rhythm sections of two very essential mope groups from the '80s, the Cure and the Smiths. Simon Gallup, bass player for the Cure, is 40 today, and Mike Joyce, drummer for the Smiths is 37. I'm sure that both Robert Smith and Morrissey are wishing the boys of the rhythm section a happy birthday.

Some photos of Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke recording the new Aziz album are on the Forestudio site, link from vu.

The front page technical redesign which I've briefly mentioned a few times before is very near completion. The code is in place and I just have a few things to clean up, I imagine the switchover will be sometime this weekend, probably on Sunday.

This is probably the biggest change I've ever made to the site -- something that I've been preparing for in the last year and something I've been working nonstop on in the last couple months. In order for the system to work well you'll need a login name, so think of what you want to use (this is separate from the discussion board / chat logins). The new login system will be very easy to work with.

Unless something urgent comes up this will be the last update until the switchover.
